I couldn't agree more. Don't forget better tires too. Lowering it to look better and handle better won't mean jack if you don't have any traction. Invest also in an Ingall's torque damper to eliminate wheel hop from dumping the clutch. I have one with my LSD-equipped SS/SC and it leaves nice long dual black marks--I love it. You can find them by visiting the Vendor section of the forum and looking at their websites. Also, for lowering--if you want to go REALLY low like mine, Eibach Sportlines are the way to go. If you just want it and inch or so lower, then I would opt for the Eibach Prokit springs. (I don't know anyone in my area with a Cobalt that can afford the price of a full set of coilovers -- $1500-2000, so we make do with the Eibach springs). There are a LOT of turbo options, but best bet would be to build the engine up first. Pistons, valve springs, cams--the whole nine yards, then invest in HPTuners laptop software and take it to a reputable tune shop once you have everything installed. With your newfound speed, you're going to NEED better brakes too. I've had a great experience with my Powerslot rotors and Hawk HPS pads. Search the forum and you might find a thread or two on converting your rear drums to calipers. Best of luck!

Hey, at least your parents were nice enough to get you a car you won't kill yourself in. I had to save up and buy my first car (1984 Pontiac Firebird), but my parents got a 1971 Buick Skylark (V8 350ci, 4-bbl carburetor, dual exhaust, etc) for my little brother and the very first day he had his license he got stopped for doing 77 in a 25. Not the brightest move in the world but luckily we lived in a town of 800ppl, so the cop didn't care enough to ticket him. Just don't be like the jackasses here in Utah that get a free EVO or Subaru and beat the crap out of them. It's a damn shame to see somebody run down a 35,000 dollar car in less than a year. Take good care of it, and I'm sure you'll learn to love your new car. Congrats on the new ride!

my 2.2 was dead slow so I did something about it

intake, exhaust, header, a 75 shot of nitrous...and just ordered Patriot Stage 2 head has put me right in the mix with the "quicker" cars

save 3 grand and buy a turbo kit, or learn how to do it yourself and it will be a lot cheaper. u don't have to do anything to support ur engine til ur pushing over 250 hp. then you can keep up with a stock SS/SC. is your car a 5spd or auto? coupe or sedan? and btw, the 2.2s are pretty quick for the price that they are compared to other cars out there. and like the other guys said you shouldn't be expecting a warm welcome by saying your car sucks... you do realize that youre just dissing everyone on here that has a 2.2 don't you... not cool.

never said it was shitty huh?

3 things...

1.) READ THIS:
https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/2-2l-l61-performance-tech-45/aftermarket-l61-cobalt-parts-27680/

2.) USE THE SEARCH!

3.) READ READ READ...Its the easiest way to learn....

Now if you want faster get:
Intake
Header
Downpipe
Exhaust(no bigger than 2.5")
Better Tires
LIGHTER rims
Torque Dampener
Lowering Springs
Exhaust Manifold
Poly Motor/Tranny Mounts
75 shot of Nitrous.... or NOS as i'm sure you know it as

If your serious about high boost turbo:
Upgrade your internals
Pistons, Rods, Valve Train, Cams, Head gaskets, and Head studs...

Dont forget READ & SEARCH!!!

oh and one more thing...

Grow the F*** up, and dont act like a little bitch b/c you were given a "shitty 2.2 DOHC ECOTEC"...

IBTTL

What the **** are you talking about? Do you have any experience or have done any research behind people who have turbocharged a L61?

Biggest thing with a turbo is that yes they have kits out but there is no widely available tuning for the 2.2L. There are several companies that have it in the works and i would assume by the end of the yr we should start to see some. However like a lot of the other members state you can't just slap a turbo on and tune it. Some internal engine work will be required as well.
There is tuning...

Piggybacks work just fine.

Sounds like you're grouping. Not all young teenagers are bad drivers who have a lead foot and will kill themselves in these "ever so fast" fwd cars. I'm in the same boat this guy is in. I was actually promised an ss/sc (after learning how to drive on my dad's supercharged vehicle), and I had saved up around 8K. My fathe rpromsied me, if I saved up at least 7K, that he would lay down what I laid down for a downpayment. Short story short, he made me buy an auto 05 LS (I hate driving auto, with a passion), yes I am thankful that he gave me the extra 3K to get the car, but I am kind of disappointed that I was lied to on numerous occasions and then made to buy what I hadn't saved up my money for. (and now I won't get a chance to buy a brand new ss/sc )

Anyway, sgrrsh26, congrats on your new car. its more of a nimble car, not that fast, in all honesty, but nimble with a little bit of get up. I would suggest going the GMPP way. Doesn't give any warranty trouble that some dealerhsips may want to give. Get the GMPP intake, GMPP SPort exhaust w/angled or straight cut tip, and the extruded honed manifold, some other gm products on there. These cars can look good as well as be a little more nimble, and sound good as well.

He isn't ungrateful, like all you guys are saying. He's being hoenst. The 2.2L's are that fast, or as fast as the other trim levels. Its the most economy based trim level. And the CRXs are some of the fastest accelerating cars out there, they're not necessarily slow either.

Its not really "faster" than the normal civics and focus. There aren't too many cars that people modify that are slower than the balt (especially if its an auto).

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't pleased with my forced LS when I first got it, I am growing more attached to it. Though its auto. Still though, I'm not bashing the 2.2L, they're engines with a ton of potential, the fastest street legal cobalt is a 2.2L right now. Just, stock, its not that fast.

Wow. You are VERY ungreatful. You are lucky your parents are wiling to do that for you. I wish my parents would have bought me a car. Nope. I had to buy my own car, which meant lots of saving. If I were you, I'd just be happy they got me a car...

wowsers.......yes..i said it...

this thread went to hell in a hand basket. first of all, your friend with his "Stage 3" turbo ****...is a ******* idiot...laugh and punch him in the face for me....

this car isnt "Stage" supported per say.....it really all depends on what you want to do.

Alpine has a turbo kit for your car, but its not cheap. which isnt "staged" but if you call ahead of time, they can work somethin out....

Im not going to call you ungrateful, simply because everybody else on here has already (thanks guys).

But seriously, A car is a car...the 2.2 balts are pretty quick....granted my ss is alot faster.....but still.

ask yourself: "Would you rather be walking? or sitting in your friends car looking dumb?"

face it....nobody likes to depend on friends for a ride....ever.

There is a kid up here, whos 18ish...his mommy and daddy own a car accessories shop (neons, lights, mufflers, tips...tint)...he has a shitty beretta, but has a really nice mustang...both of which mommy and daddy bought for him....

he talks so much ****....but you gotta remember...its easy to talk **** when mommy or daddy buys you a car....

You literaly have no room to bitch about your car unless your paying for it...its a huge pride thing to get in that car the very first time...your own car........take it out of the dealership...and just give it some nice WOT.

im done ranting and talking.

In short: If your cars slow...make it faster. Make it faster with http://www.tntautosport.com

It depends on what you want. Here is how I'm looking at it, I know unless I want to spend massive amounts of money on this cobalt, it won't be even as fast as a 2.4L SS. The basic bolt ons will get a little more pwoer out of it, but not the greatest gains. Lots of stuff will still beat you. I'm wanting to get an SS/SC, so I'm not going to be putting massive amounts of money into my 2.2L LS. I did a few cosmetic things, like shaving the trunklid, putting the "LS" on the interior trim, and I MAY paint the headlights. I got the GMPP cat back, and have the CAI, Extruded honed manifold and stuff on order.

Personally, I think, unless you want to spend a ton of money on the car, its not really going to be too on par with the others.

I don't think you're ungrateful by the way man, I think you like the car, but you just realize its not as fast as you want it to be. Just the word usage is what people are complaining about.
