Flex Fuel E85 questions on the 07 LS (more power?)
I read an old post on this and it did not help.
I went to the dealership to get an oil change and needed a fuel filter.
The fuel filter costs too much, and I asked why and I am told it is because my 2007 LS Cobalt can run E85.
I was told that the fuel filter on the 07 is designed to work with the E85 and is why it costs around $30 more. The price is what prompted me to ask "WTF ?" to the dealership.
I also read on many cars that can run E85 have a seperate program that runs once the car detects the higher octane/ E85, as a result there is a higher output. This seperate program I guess changes the TB response, AFR and timing. Who knows...
I am very curious if A) the E85 actually does give the engine more hp kind of like a different program/ tune once the engine acknowledges the E85 B) if the E85 really does wear the fuel system down quicker C) is our gas tanks lined to accept E85 (seems like it would, would not make sense otherwise D) is the 05 and 06 Flexfuel capable too? E) why didn't they badge the car FLEXFUEL?

hahaha. When I test drove my 08 cobalt the salesmen told me that XFE meant it could run on E85...
Just because someone works at a dealership doesn't mean they necessarily know their ass from a hole in the ground...

If they are charging me around $100 to replace a fuel filter for the second time, as I am at 30k miles, it is going to be small claims court for their asses.

Probably wouldn't be worth it if you're not boosted. There was a pretty good writeup on E85 in the August issue of Modified Mag. Describes the pluses and minuses of running E85 and goes into the different stuff you have to do to convert your car.

Saw that coming
Oh and to whoever it was said the stealership is charging $100 for a fuel filter + labor go get some petroleum jelly because your getting it hard I just went to autozone yesterday and picked the filter up for $15 and had my father change it since I was busy. I just find it really hard to believe that an 07 filter could be that much more expensive than an 06
seriously???

I'm **** about certain things on my car and the fuel filter being one of them, I got mine from GMPartsDirect.com. I think it was $43...I also ordered a few other things at the same time though. I paid more than Auto Zone, but oh well. I won't complain. Then again, I'm nearly stock performance wise and I put Royal Purple in for my first synthetic oil change. Got a great deal for less than $5 a quart though and a K&N filter for $40 plus tax.
