I pulled the resonator off the intake... On a 2.2L it doesn't really do much but slow air down imo. I cut the MAF sensor off the air box cover and bought a filter for $20 and made a temporary intake.

if you look at the stock airbox cover it's like a tube with the MAF sensor then the cover molded to that tube. So I cut away the cover to leave the MAF with the tube shape. Pulled the big resonator bong thing from the bumper and then bought a short piece of 2.8"-3" pipe and throw a filter on the end of it.
Throws no codes... don't see what the issue is.

Sure is.... does the exact thing your $200 intake does and more.
I view it as putting preimum gas in a 2.2L, why waste the money. When the hood is closed no one sees it. I haven't wasted money on making the engine look nice, and I don't go popping the hood every parking lot I park at. I used my dremel to make the pipe look smooth... being a little prejudgemental in my opinion, you haven't even seen the thing.

The way you explained it the first time it sounded like you removed the MAF completely. I bet your intake air temps skyrocketed with your "homemade" intake.
Do you have any pics of said modification?

I will go get pics when the sun acutally comes up.
Temps sky rocket by adding a small piece of intake piping? It's not like I used the rain gutter off my apartment building? If you guys feel it's gunna be that big of a difference I've already had plans to order the eBay intake.
I have a crappy picture from my camera phone for now.
It's just a filter connected to the end of the stock piping... the pipe clamp was rotated under so you don't see it anymore.
Flame away... don't really care too much. It works, it's on my car.

No, because before your intake/filter was housed & drew air from the wheel well where its cooler. Now its drawing hot air from the engine bay. Thus is why the GMPP ShortRam intake comes with a box that seals to the hood.
I ran a Shortram for about 2hrs and saw an increase of about 15* in my intake temps compared to stock. Switched it to a CAI and it dropped back down to 1-2* below stock.
^^Not bashing your idea, as plenty of others have done there own "custom" shortram intake...just some food for thought

See, the only thing I didn't understand with the placement of the tubing before, is on my LT the back of the grill is blocked off with those plates. So the filter is set below the headlight where it doesn't seem like much air would travel.
To be honest, I am not afraid to spend the money. I just was bored one day and saw the how to stock airbox mod and got carried away. Hence why my headlights are HID Retros... same problem.
So your still saying that with the piping placed down in the fender, I would benefit more with less heat soak from the colder intake temps.

exactly. Colder air is denser air which is better for your car. Also another advantage to a "real" intake is the tube goes directly into the throttle body, as apposed to floating around in that black hunk thing & loose its velocity.
