lol, i'm personally in dyer need of traction mods for launches. my 60ft times suck, and it's cause i have to launch @ like 1200rpm's and take it real easy in 1st or else the car goes into crazy wheel hop mode.

yea that wheel hop is a safety keep you from low 15's kinda feature. lol

why 05 and 06? I know they started the lap engines after that but did it make it more difficult to swap cams?

your right on the SAI it did start on the 07's, but it was still the L61 engine
the 09+ models also have it but they come with 155hp stock and i think thats pretty much the only difference

much misinfo here.

SAI is dependent on where your car was originally sold. California is a prime example.

he may have suggested cams for 05-06's because they don't have the cam position sensor pressed on like those of us with 07+ have.

if im not mistaken, SAI was a california feature. you wont find it on most cobalts, unless they were sold new in cali.

as far as traction mods, i am already looking at some nice sized tires for my 16 in steelies lol. i also have two solid trans mounts, and im looking at a solid upper engine mount as well. but if you know how to work your clutch you dont have to deal with wheel hop... ask cubaniche... he has seen me lay 50' of rubber, smoking tires and all with NO wheel hop lol

they say cams in an 05 and 06, because the 2007 model had a different head, which requires the cam positioning sensor to be pressed onto the camshaft by a machine shop..however, vince from trifecta created a tune where this is not required anymore, therefore cams will go into any model except the LAP

Wait, so you can run an 07 L61 with cams without the sensor, as long as you have the tune? I never heard of this. I wonder how you can remove the sensor from the head, or if thats even needed.

wouldn't be needed, the sensor itself is a magnet of sorts. with the system disabled the sensor would serve as a plug and would not interfer with the cams operation.

Im not sure what it looks like since I never took my valve cover off yet, but would it be left there or would you just take the sensor out? If you could just leave it there uninstalled on the new cams and its fine that would be great.

Yes the dyno jets read really high. Most quote a 7% difference over a mustang dyno.

I have a 2007 cobalt ss sc and they dyno stock at about 214whp. I have a 3" cat back an injen c/a and I dynoed a 231 on the mustang dyno. On a dyno jet I post in the 240's which is way off.

Like he posted, if he uses it as a starting point and always runs on dynojets he will be ok but if you switch dont be suprised if you post more realistic numbers.....
