Garrett Turbo

im kinda new to the whole bolting and boosting so i was lookin to get the Garrett turbo kit for the 2.2L cobalt, but i was only gonna get the essentials kit with the turbo, manifold, and downpipe. My question is if i get just the essentials what else would i need to get my car runnin on low boost. i only wanna do 5-7psi for now untill i can do more internal work. thanks in advance...

2.5" Intercooler piping, intercooler, higher flow fuel pump, bigger injectors, rrfpr and tuning software, wideband air fuel gauge, blow off valve, would recommend upgrading axles if you're going to beat on it, thats a start

Oil lines and fittings. To be honest with you, I'd personally feel better spending the extra money to get the GT Tuner kit. But thats just because I'm not too familiar with turbo setups and all the necessary parts.

-Intercooler
-Intercooler Piping + Intercooler Custom Mounting Brackets (Fabricated)
-Custom Cold Air Intake
-Turbocharger Heat Sheild (Optional but good to have)
-42 lb. of better injectors
-Injector Harness unless you get direct fit injectors (Accel, Ford Motorcraft.....)
-Blow off valve
-Wideband Air/Fuel gauge
-Boost Gauge
-Stock SS/SC A-Pillar or some kind of 2 1/16" mounting pod
-Oil Feed and Return Lines
-Water Feed line
-Various fittings, clamps, elbows, hoses & adapters
-Trifecta Tuning PDA
-Dyno might be needed if data logging the PDA is not sufficient to get a proper tune.

If you can do all the work yourself and you have a 2nd car to drive then your ok. The problem is your going to run into snags along the way which will increase your downtime. Hahn racecraft has done all the research for you and put together a reliable kit. I think it was worth the money I spent to have good brand name parts and not a 1/2 garrett and 1/2 ebay brand turbo kit. If you buy quality parts individually to add to your essentials kit you won't save much $$$ in the end cause of all the shipping costs and your time/fuel spent gathering parts.
Do it right the first time.
Now I sound like Mike Holmes

You're saying you want to do this as cheap as possible I just read that. I hate to say it but going turbo is not a cheap thing if you do it the right way. Even a bolt on kit isn't bolt on if everything is done the right way. Save your pennies buy all the right quality parts and make sure its done right. If you don't your going to really enjoy your turbo for about 20 minutes before your motor goes kaboom and then you really have some expense. I've seen 3 cavaliers that I've helped with go into the 12's on the stock internals cuz they did it right got tuned right and everything.

I hear what you all are saying...im not trying to totally skimp out on parts trust me i understand a quality part we rebuilt a 70 chevelle together from the frame up...but i do think i can piece together a decent intercooler, pipeing, and whatever else i may need cheaper then the full garrett kit. it doesnt matter to me if its 20 or 50 bucks it all helps. and speaking of tuning....i heard the tuner that comes with the alpha kit doesnt even work on my cobalt so any suggestions where to get that from =/

No the tuner for that kit does not work on anything newer than the 06's. The only two options you have are the LS2 Edit software that is done off your home based laptop or Trifecta tuning which is preset into a PDA and sent to you and you have to keep going back and forth with them to get a proper tune. I will tell you though for the tuning process a wideband gauge is going to be your best friend. Also does your car have SAI? If it does that is another thing you are going to have to try to figure out how to deal with. I know nothing about that because I have never worked on anything with it.
