GM exhaust

Ok, there is a GM touring exhaust system for the cobalt on ebay and the bid is at 255 right now. But i really want the performance one. should i try to bid on the touring since i might get a steal, or just save for the performance model?

dude its really about what you want your exhaust to sound like. You seem to have your mind made up you want the gmpp sport. Why is that? The dif between the 2 is the tone. The touring is more subdued.

yeah, I know, but a steal is a steal. I like the louder exhaust(my kid falls asleep!) but i could settle for the touring if i could get it for way cheaper.

Get the touring, I've heard both in person, the difference is minor.

The touring has a nice deep tone, you can just hear it at idle with the windows up, and just a little at crusing speed. Any louder at crusing speed and I think that it would be annoying.

Yeah, the performance is VERY similar. I've driven two cobalts with the systems, I have the perf one on my car, and its much like the stock exhaust but louder. Retains the nice clean tone of factory exhaust, but you can hear it. Mine is very managable even without a cat. Ported stock manifold helps me out as well, to lower the tone and keep it nice sounding.

Touring>>>>>>>>>>>>Performance.

Trust me, I have heard the performance on eco's, and it doesn't sound pretty and at 25x that is more than a steal, its a raping.

And if you want to hear it...just hit the go pedal a bit more

from my experience, it's best to get the parts you really want, even if it means spending a little more or waiting a little longer. because in the end, you'll be kicking yourself that you didn't get the parts you want.

The only difference between the performance and touring exhaust is they probably put more sound deadning material in the muffler for the touring exhaust.

The only actual difference is the resonator. The Performance resonator is empty, the touring one has similar construction to the muffler, with packing in it. Thats it. You pay $100 extra for stuffing...

Right. Thats why I have the performance version on my car. I'm not paying more and getting the same product. The difference between the two is very slight, if any, from what i've experienced.

The sound is totally different.

If you want the deeper tone get the touring, that is why I bought it.

It is all on sound preference

I've driven both, and I would not call it totally different. My car sounds nice and mellow with the performance system.

You have a 2.2? That could be why.

Eh, sounds nice on my car. Solstice is a lot different though, even the manifold is different. Things like that can have a big effect on the sound of the exhaust. I know porting my stock manifold made my car much deeper and poppier in the lower RPM range, almost cam-like at idle. People have asked me more than once what cams I have in the car.

I know the CA header and ZZP 2.5" DP made a huge difference in sound once they broke in.

I know you can't hear much of a difference inside the car...but outside the car is a HUGE difference.

I only paid $414 for my GMPP with the tip, brand new, tax included. Just something to consider.

I say go with the one you want.

In the long run it will make you happier knowing you got exactly what you wanted.

Absoultely, breaking the exhaust in coats it with carbon inside, softens up the tone a lot. ZZP catted DP sounds a lot like stock, but I have a 3" catless. Sounds like a race car

My car would be too loud for some people, it bothers me sometimes, but it sounds sexy at WOT and low rpm cruising, and with DFCO turned off, it burbles and pops like an SRT-4 when coasting down in gear. I love it.

I don't mind a burble and a pop.

Cars that come off a high rev that constantly burble and pop remind me of cheap fart canned cars.

Burble and pop every now and then=FTW in my books.

Everytime you deaccelerate...eh...

Its deep, not like a cheap muffler. And it doesn't do it all the time, it has its moments. Its kinda weird actually, but it sounds good. I'll get a video of me driving around one day to show it off. Hard to describe it really.

And it does it mainly at low rpms, not high as much. under 3K let-off in gear sounds fantastic, and since thats where I spend 95% of my driving time, I'm happy.
