Why waste money on a scanner when you can just go the autozone and get it for free?

I got the $50 Actron scanner. IMO the $50 was worth not having to go to autozone everytime. Plus, I've helped out alot of other people by scanning their cars as well.

True it all depends how far away you live from a autozone or car store.

Well A: it doesnt cost $5k, B: its not just a simple tool. I cant go a single day at work without using it, even with the other diagnostic tool I have.

But its obviously far more than most people need

You can get a good scanner that just reads and erases codes for about $80. I picked up a basic Actron at Autozone for $60 on sale -- it reads and erases codes just fine.

I can get a BT one for like 50$, and free programs for my Phone or laptop.

I do have a second question though, aparently the code I throw doesn't make the CEL come on, Can it still be cleared with a hand held unit/ or standard OBD II reader? (or only the Tech 2)?

Thanks again.
