Help Please =( multple codes

Well I have some problems with my car and hopefully you guys can give me some insight.

codes from scanner are as follows

p0304-cyl 4 misfire
p1133-Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) insufficient switching bank 1 sensor 1(Rear Bank)
p0340-Camshaft Postion Sensor
p01133- Same as before i suppose.


Details on my car are as follows-
L61
Auto
Nothing more than bolt ons as far as mods. (intake, full exhaust)

Any help would really be appreciated

I should add that my car barely starts now and I get about 17MPG driving conservatively. Im sure that the front 02 sensor needs to be changed but anything else?

I kno the techies didnt all leave cssnet. bump

my bet is there is a problem with your CMP sensor which would cause your misfire and your other code. get that looked into first then if the other codes are still there then worry about them then.

now i thought about that

till i realized i didnt have cam position sensor..


could it be the ICM?

pull the plug outta cyl 4 and double check the gap ..or if the prong is fried....its happened to me in the past....with the sensors....I'm not too sure..one might have gone faulty and skewed others. - It'd be a long shot...just a guess

actually did that about an hour ago lol. plugs are good.

thinking its ither the ICM or 4th injector.

does yours have the coil packs? if it does try swapping the coil packs with another cylinder and see if the misfire switches if it does then you have a faulty coil pack.

on ions, since they've been around longer, we see a lot of failures of the cartridge style ignition systems, what happens is a bad plug gets driven on too long, or a coil goes bad, or the ICM goes bad. The end result seems to almost always be replacing of all three, but since your plugs are fine, you only need the two coils and the ICM, the cartridge itself is rebuildable. Advance auto or a similar store may have diagnostic procedures for this ignition system, call around and see, but I see this a lot over on the ion forums.

this is wht im thinking.

i have the old style l61. without individual coill on plugs.

I saw that, I have an ion with a 2.2 with the individual coils, a much more durable design, much less retained heat and no heat to the ICM, as there is none. good luck figuring out why your car thinks it has a CPS, lol.

Ith thinks it has a CMP because it uses the Ignition module as a cam sensor. How do you know your plugs are good? how old are they? The P0304 is actully the most likely cause of the P0340, problems with the number 4 ignition (or fuel) will make the CMP circuits not work right.

Change the plugs, and the O2 sensor(p1133 means it isnt seeing enough transitions from rich to lean in a certain amount of time) There are two problem because the P1133 cant set when the P0340 is current.

changed all four last night just incase.

they were pretty worn out for only having around 40k...

still throwing all the CELs.


pick up another o2 sensor before trying the ICM?


think im going to go to a junk yard today and pick up a used ICM and o2 sensor.

did you clear the codes? the cel will go away after so many warmup cycles

yeah, i clear the codes and they come back after a tiny bit of driving.

so now its between the ICM, o2 sensor or 4th injector. also could be the coil pack. might get all of those used today from a cavi.

might go get a new o2 sensor tho. when i looked at the one i have the tip of it was white.... thats not good eh?



ughhh. i wish i had a tech 2. then i could test individual parts. the injector program is sick lol.

the coils and ICM combined make up all problems on the ion forums, not the injector, I don't recall an injector ever going on an ecotec over there. I would replace both coils and the ICM with new (as they are obviously failure prone) and see what happens from there.

The P1133 is a pretty solid indicator that you have an O2 or O2 wiring problem, check the connector, make sure its clean and tight and if it is replace the O2 sensor.

If you replace all the plugs(With ACDelco or NGK I hope.....) then check the connector for the ICM , then check the wiring from the ICM making sure its not damaged/rubbed through or pinched anywhere on end of head, then replace ICM(they are more common issue than coils, but COULD need both, its rarely just the coils)

so i just got back from a trip to the junk yard. the only part I had luck finding was a coil pack.


put it on, no change.


so that rules out coil pack and spark plugs ( i did change them with ACdelco plugs, iv been on the forums long enough to know not to put anything but in an ecotec lol)

pretty sure maven and the rest are right. i wish i could have picked up an o2 sensor. and ICM.


going to be ordering those new tonight.

what year is it?

p0304-cyl 4 misfire check plug, may also be bad coild if 07
p1133-Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) insufficient switching bank 1 sensor 1(Rear Bank) possible first sensor befor cat
p0340-Camshaft Postion Sensor this one could be tricky,may be a bad sensor or needs to be reprogrammed, which a dealer would have to do a cvr (camshaft variation relearn)

No, that just rules out the spark plugs, LOL. Junk yard parts, especially junk yard ICMs/Coils arent what i would call "known good" and go ahead and base diagnostics on them. You got the right idea though, new ones.

used is not reliable in this case, if yours failed already on an 06, what makes you think a junkyard one would be any better? that would be like getting a used ICM or a used ignition switch. Please listen to me, I have seen more than a dozen of these cases over on the ion forums, it took a set of coils and an ICM to solve the problem on all of them,

yup ordering ICM tonight. almost positive its that.

i ruled out the injector BTW.


pretty sure i have the typical ICM failure.

just be careful, I have heard of people putting bad coils together with a good ICM and visa versa. The results were the same in both cases, the bad component took out the good one(s).
