How much HP can a stock 07 2.2 auto tranny take??
I'm just curious how much HP my stock automatic tranny can take.... For instance if i was going to install a s/c from a wrecked ss.... With a tune ofcourse......I am still going to try to stay n/a,and then later add power adders......Any advise would be helpful..... I am still fairly new to cobalts, even though i have had 2...... My girlfriend wrecked the first one, which was n/a modified pretty substancially.... So she finaly got another 07 about a year ago... It is an 07 LT......... I'm going to take posession of it later on this year when we get an suv... I'm going to be driving the cobalt.....And i'm going to go as far n/a that i can,the way that i have done with my Mark 7......

I heard the max recommended was 250hp.
Of course with this level of horsepower, the tranny wont last long if you race it a lot.
I remember someone talking about parts that can swapped out to strengthen up the transmission, but it was a long time ago, and I am not very good at telling stories...

I think I remember reading somewhere in the range of 350 ft-lbs torque, it may be less than that, but as someone else mentioned, you definitely do NOT have to worry about it unless you're going for the ultimate build (in which case, you're going to be spending so much you may as well buy a new car).

So you guys are saying if a 2001 Trans Am 5.7 liter motor could hook up to this tranny, it would last?
This is good to know that they made the tranny so bulletproof.

GM does have a really good reputation for making really strong transmissions from the factory.....But i am going to do some more research......I am not planning on racing this cobalt, but i would like to know that i can be comfortable throwing any type of abuse to it,and it not throwing any of the insides out of the pan.......
