HP gains?

HP gains?
Okay...me n my friend are both very aggressive in our cars (despite their speed) and occasionally race. ive got my stock cobalt LS 06 n hes got a Magnum...SXT i think...whichever one was a 3.5L. When we race, usually to 60mph since its on surface streets, he beats me by about 1/2 a car length...so i figure in my appearance mods, might as well get a CAI (goin Injen) and a GMPP exhaust...so im curious, how much extra HP would i get with a Injen CAI and a GMPP cat-back.
also...if i were to get new headers and downpipes /w a high flow cat...how much would that boost me also?
most of my planned mods are for appearance, so im just looking for enough extra power to be on top...and possibly a little extra so i know i'll stay on top (the headers/downpipe would be my extra)
so...any of these answers would rock..thnx guys

truthfully, if you were all out on the bolt ons... intake, exhaust, header, b-pipe, copper plugs... you MAY get about 10-15 whp out of it.
now, while that may not sound like a lot, it's about a 10% gain over stock... that's enough to make the car drive very different. may get that 1/2 a car back.

i disagree... you will get about 5-7whp for just the catback, about the same for the downpipe and header... also about the same for a cai... i would say more like 15 - 25 whp for catback, downpipe w/high flow cat, header, and intake...
but, this is also known as ricer math... so, get the parts, dyno, and let us know what you end up with...
also, with 250 hp, 250 ft lbs, and awd, once your friend actually learns how to drive it will be a lot harder to keep up...

well, also, HP numbers can change depending on the time that you do your tests.... i don't like that part makers do runs back to back. on the surface, it seems fair, but to be real you should do random tests... lets say 10 over a week, and then average it out... get an "artificial curve" and then do the same with the "upgrade" it seems like you're faking it, but it would be a more acurate judge of power.
also, when i make "crystal ball dyno" guesses, i am always speaking average increase, a 30hp gain for 200 RPM is about as usefull as **** on a bull.
can we agree that it'll prolly get hit about his 1/2 a carlength back?

sounds about right...
any way you look at it, you'll feel the gains, but it's not going to take a second off your 1/4 or anything like that...

it's a shame, cause for just a few dollars at autozone and wal mart, he could be in the high 14s... well AFTER you take out the back seats, and add rims to the back with steelies up front (with the BEST mastercraft radials you can get)

well, that was fast...better responses than i usually get. thanx guys, answered all my questions
as for this:
he drives an auto...no AWD (thats an option on the 3.5L) so i dont think he can do much in terms of driver mod
keep in mind...i think curb weight of our cars is (approx) 2,800 for mine and 3,800 for his.

the internet needs a "this is sarcastic" button, lol

Not to rain on a parade, but with the amount of money you're going to spend on all the air filter and exhaust stuff, you could have a LOT more horespower buy going to a GM stage 1 or 2 kit. I mean, a stage one is what - $400 plus labor for the copmuter and injectors? The cat back will cost that much by itself,,= and figure another $400+ for a good header. Now you're into GM Stage 2 territory.
Just something to think about.
Just something to think about.
