I just got $1750, 2006 2.2 LS
ANYHOW, I want to build up my car just a little. It's completely stock except for an GM SRI.
Are motor mounts good even though this car will never see more that 160 whp in it's life?
My goal is to be as fast as a 2.4 liter, that would be 171 hp to the crank.
What are some good mods for that? I figure fully doing my exhaust, header, dp; then getting the intake manifold everyone says good things about. Then finally a tune should have me pretty close to my goal.
BUT, is the intake manifold worth it for someone who won't be taking their car to the track? as it stands now I don't think my car ever goes above 4k rpms; maybe once I get a full exhaust and tune i'll bring it up to 5.5k (but i'll never go over that, i'm afraid to break things!)
I would also like to do some suspension work, the pedder kit with TC shocks looks good... but do I need TC shocks at 34k miles?
Also what about a strut and anti roll bar? I don't want to go to low because of winter... I already had a full lip kit and the rear and front is now taken off because of compact snow. 500 dollars down the drain... at least the sides are still on lol.
Anyhow, I just want some ideas on what's the best for my money.
EDIT: Also does anyone know which seats are the most comfortable? I'm putting at least 600 dollars aside for some new seats because I HATE the seats in there now. I don't care about the rear, I just want new front seats something more comfortable. Heated seats is a bonus since it's cold in alaska.

with that much money, you could do a supercharger kit.
if you wanna get new seats, try to find a full set of recaros from an ss/sc or a set of tc seats.
you may not need the fe5 struts and shocks now, but it's certainly a possibility in the future. Plus the struts help make the car handle much better.
Sway bars are certianly worth the money, the front one is a lot of work to change, but the rear is a fast simple bolt on, Powell Street bar should be your weapon of choice on a rear bar. Strut tower bars don't really do anything, despite what some people may say. The struts can't move to begin with, as the strut mounts are already built right into the firewall. If the struts were say in the middle of the engine bay, then they would work.

2. get the 2.4L intake manifold and throttle body, it is def worth it, track or not. you will need a tune for the throttle body tho
3. TC shocks are better then stocks
4. as far as strut bar and sway bars. good investment. also invest in some poly bushings
5. ive always rocked the stock seats so i couldnt tell you anything about those

id save that money and go to a strip club instead of spending it on a pos cobalt to be honest man
if i didnt spend money on my car id have like 5k in the bank right now its not worth it

i just noticed your in alaska... that has to suck, so just look at the big picture. if you plan on keeping the cobalt for 3 years/more, keep saving and saving until you have enough to buy the complete kit from zzp, hp tuners. there is actually a few how-to's on here. but if you want to keep it simple id do the supercharger swap. its so simple a 15 yr old can do it.
well in your location a caveman can do it haha

turbo swapping is dumb easy as long as you got everything needed. you dont need a shop to do it either unless youre doing custom made work to it. i did all my work in my garage as basic tools unless i needed somethin welded up

some people say its not worth it, some pay say it is. everyone has their opinion about them. to be honest, i think all the money i put into my LS was worth it. it was total sleeper, noone expected it to be as stout as it was and i had plenty of fun in it. it just depends on how far you wanna go.
