I maxed out the car - 120mph+

i know for a fact that gm has 2 different calibrations for the 2.2 one is for the 195 tires witch lowers the top speed and the other is for the 205 tires witch gives you a little higher top speed. I hit 150 in my ss sc.

Speedo calibration at high speeds can be off. HOw could top speed be higher then the tire ratings speed? GM could be in trouble if they put tires on that were an incorrect speed rating on.
2.4L SS has the H rated 130mph---its probably limited to that speed, although it could go higher with no limiter.

And on a stock 2.2L Ecotec---I say no. The 2.4L has much more high rpm power.

This is direct from GM as well....
"And what about the performance? According to Chevrolet Cobalt marketing manager Jeff Haag, the SS Supercharged does 0-60 mph in 6.4 seconds and runs the quarter mile in an impressive 14.9 seconds. Whats more, Haag says the SS Supercharged isnt required to have a speed limiter because the car comes equipped with Z-rated tires, allowing a top speed of 143 mph."

And yea... maybe... who knows
I'm trying to find out why mine does not seem to be limited?? 1st year car goof up prolly.... cuz then again my car has 3 seatbelts in the back but only 1 buckle!
and yes i've checked to make sure they weren't tucked into the seat somewhere...off topic i know but odd huh...? o well no one ever rides in my backseat anyway...

ok... i don't know much about cars, what i can tell you BECAUSE I SAW AT THE DEALER, that all cobalts DO NOT have the same clusters, the 06LS gauge goes to 120 and is different than the LT which goes to 140 and looks different... they also CAN come with different tires...

Yikes
Kinda new here so dont flame me too bad. I have an ss/sc bought it in cali. I hit 130 in forth then shifted to 5th got to about 146 then the car felt like it was about to take off. Just my two cents. No that it matters. I'm gonna try to get a pic thou. It will be fun to scare the hell out of my g/f too. Well anyways until the pic I guess the battle continues!!

You might be correct on the 06's, I haven't looked into those. I am going to double check tomarrow on the 05's as well. If I am incorrect I will post so and appologize. As for the tires, we were talking about all base models coming with the same tires. I know the LT's and LS's all have different options.

yea, there is a sports apearance package... it comes with the white face guages which look cool as **** at night, they're a grayish blue and also chromed exhaust tip, leather covered steering wheel, shifter, and i think the rear wing is in the sports package... not sure about the wing... i have better tires than come stock too, i'm not sure if that was part of the sports package or not though..

hmm ....well lets see i got a 05 cobalt sedan base 5 speed....ive hit 125mph in 4th gear right at redline.....no limiter and it holds the speed in 5th when i shift but wont hardly even move ....im also running the 195 stockers ....although my friends mom has a 05 cobalt coupse ls and it stopped at 105....so i dont care what anyone says all cars are different no matter what they are even if they are the same car.....just my .02 if need be if u think im lieing next time i get a chance ill take a pic of my car passed the 120 mark

i got to 148 in my ss, then I bitched out cuz, well that is really fast for me, I'm used to draggin' frame in my s-10, I need to go to a track top out, I won't do it on the street, too many risks...

Speed
I have a 2005 Cobalt SS and I have had it 125+ MPH and still had plenty of room to push it. These cars are faster than everyone thinks. Against the SRT-4 they are a good match, it all depends on the driver, also the SRT-4 has been out for three years when our Cobalt just came out. Let's all modify these things and well smoke all four cylinder cars. Cobalts will take it all over.

what the guages say mean nothing. Grand Nationals had 85mph speedo. But were governed at 126mph cause of the tires/suspension. Ungoverned over 150mph.
Other cars have speedos that are grossly optomistic and could never each that speed.

nobody was saying that the speedo determines how fast the car goes... we were talkin about the differences in the cars

I'll throw that out there anyways though. Lots of people do think that top speed is what the speedometre reads to.
