ok, cool... i'm not so familiar with the 05's since i didn't look at any, but the 06's i looked at were all very different as far as appearance... the only explanation i have rec. so far as to the different gauges is 1)get the better LOOKING guages with the sports appearance package, and 2) since the package I received has better tires (16's instead of 15's) the limiter is supposed to be set higher? i haven't found #2 to be true, since i get cut off right over 105... my max speed has been 107, but the car still have plenty to go...

I can't drive 55 or 65

I need to move to germany so i can go 100+ legally . To solve the lead foot problem make all cars with top speed 65. No more speeding " The land of way to many dumb laws!

Um, that doesn't really settle anything... you must have an auto.. your sig doesn't say but you must because you cut out at ~105. I've had my base coupe (manual trans) past 120Mph. I can get a pic sometime too... lodge freeway in detroit is like the autobahn anyway.

I have done a significant amount of editing on this thread today. I have left as much as I could, but had to delete quite a bit. Knock off the bashing of each other people.

With the speed governor thing, keep in mind. If you are on a flat surface and you will hit the governor. But lets say you are on a downhill, and go you past 105, you will keep going. But its really not safe. Its not safe becuase the car isn't designed to go that fast. Thats when stuff starts to go wrong. Mostly the suspension, you hit the slightest bump and the car bounces like crazy and could cause an accident, a really really bad one.

true... people shouldn't really be driving over 105 anyway on the highway or public roads... that's how people end up killing themselves, or other drivers

Got my 05 LS coupe to 135 mph, at 5900 rpm, very close to redline, once I got there I made my self slow down, since thats to fast for non track driving in so-cal

Guess it is a good thing then. It'd be very foolish to do 100+ (let alone 150) in any kind of traffic, especially on the highway.

Ok.... something can't be right.... I can run past 110 in 4th gear. I have hit 117 4 times now. Are you saying the car won't pull anymore past 105, or that there is something cutting off the car? I also have a base model coupe with a 5 speed. Just wondering what could be the problem.

And I applogize to FLCobalt, I guess some of the cars did come with 140 speedos (haven't seen any myself but from what others have said) so I retract my statement. I still am not believing the 133 though w/o some proof. I haven't ran my car to see top speed in 4rh yet, I just know in 5th it won't pull past 117, and I have the same exact engine in a lighter package. Are you in huricane force winds pushing you? Just wondering.

I was on interstate 4 in florida, my friend and I in his 01 civic were racing at about 3 am. roads were almost empty. i was at 133. Again i cant PROVE it any other way than getting it that high again which i actually dont plan on doing because ive gotten like 10 tickets concerning my vehicle and im really trying to cool my jets if you know what i mean.

But im not an idiot and i have no reason to lie to people on the internet.
But hey if you think its BS more power to ya!!

FYI** I also didnt have my intake when i hit those speeds , my car was completely stock - the airbox mod.

either sort of fuel management system, or a VSS (vehicle speed sensor) override like people do on cavs. Do a google search and the info you want should come up.

You've just committed odometer fraud and it is now illegal to sell your car with "actual mileage" marked on the title. It can also land you a huge fine trying to sell the car like that, and instantly and significantly decreases the value of your car.

ya the govonor kicks in at 106 to be exact. and it pulls easily up to 106. in 4th gear. i believe when i hit that for the pic was at around 5k rpm but not sure. i know in 5th gear its a lil under 4K rpm when it cuts out.

I sinned by the laws of the road

I know speeding is bad but thers times when a little speed dont hurt if done right. The only time i do this is when thers no one around. An i dont travel at 120+ for miles. Thers an on ramp that i like to hit on 290 over by lowes. That is straight an long so by the time i hit the highway im doin 75+ zooooom. But i seem to catch up to slow farts in no time. 50-65mph is just to dam slow...

Just do like my one friend did on his Porsche 911 twin-turbo race car, get it geared to accelerate up to 80mph as quickly as possible because by then, "whoever you're racing will be discouraged by then and when you upshift and get to 100 the race is over."

soooo your saying you have a 2005 manual 2.2L cobalt with a 106 speed limiter? what model is your car? Kind of weird that only some would have that.
