Not to hijack the thread, but I have a Cobalt SS/SC. Some of you guys were claiming 150+ in a stock SS. I just reached 145 mph this weekend with my exhaust and it was pulling slow. I probably could've went faster but not by much, plus it was taking forever! How do you guys get up to 155??? Do you have places near you that are nothing but 10 mile long straightaways????

I have one word for you "Top Speed" Guys...

BOOM!

Sustained High RPM will cause metal fatigue in the Rods and related parts...

There, I have said it...

yea, for anyone like me who went and bought the most basic 2dr cobalt.. lmao, those continental tires really keep the speed rating down, so 107 it is... lmao. Its still pulling,, thats the part that makes me mad, sometimes I forget im going so fast and it looks like i mis-shift when it cuts the fuel.

This is true. But it can't hurt all that much to spike top speed then come back down again.

Ok, It's not my car...

Repeated Runs add up...

The Sabb 2.0L motor is strong, I'm not sure about the others...

Being a performance enthusiast that I am, If something breaks on my engine, i'm not going to get the same part again. I'm going to buy a much better built part that stronger than the stock since I wouldn't want it happenining again. Besides, I have a money tree in my backyard all to myself.

My Mazda Dealer removed the Rev and Speed limiter on the ECU when I put the built motor in the Protege. However, it was a given that I had no waranty remening. He said that he could loose the dealership if my car still had one...

I bearly got my LS today, the fastest I have gone so far is 75mph, but this is just day 1. My stepdad works at a chevy dealership and he can order a performance chip, but I believe a LS is only ment to go 0-120mph and thats all. Or else the motor will start screwing up (ie pistons, ect.)

Well, almost. There is no "chip" in our cars. The fuel control is an intergral part of the on board computer. Your cars speed is electronically limited by that computer. It simply stops delivering fuel when it reaches the speed set in the computer. Now that speed limit can be changed by a GM Goodwrench shop with the correct programming equipment, but they will not do it. That speed is set by the tires you have, not the engine limitations.

If yer calling bullshit, lets see the pics!!! Actually 10? seems very low for a limiter but I guess it depends on the speed rating of your tires. I dunno all I know is the SC is drag rated

You monkeys who are exceeding the speed rating of your tires are playing russian roulette

my LS will do 150+ and oh yea SS owners if u ever see a blue gray cobalt coming up behined u dont even try to mess with me my ls will kick u'r a**
Haha, now that I would like to see. Actually if you managed to get up that fast in the 2.2, I would sure as hell be getting out of the way, I wouldnt want to run over all the engine and transmission pieces that would inevitably wind up on the interstate.... Thats not even taking into account you wont be able to stop or turn

Oh geez.... bring your junk to Lapeer dragway this spring and I will show you first that my base does not cut out at 105, and second that your LS doesn't go 150. For my encore I will show you that my base can whoop it.
