I hit 123 in my ls cobalt on US 101 go to the dealership and have them reprogram your ECU for bigger wheel and tire combo it removes the limiter cause the stock wheel and tire combos on the ls 2.2 is not safe to hit higher speeds so if you haven't upgraded your tires from the weak continental stock tires the dealership probably won't do it but what a great investment!

Well before my tune, my fuel cutoff was at 106 and i have a 5spd base model.

Yes, it is very old, and the new posts are very wrong.

The bigger wheel tune does not remove your limiter. It changes it from 105 to 120.

And that picture is not accurate. He probably has an auto and accelerated to top speed, then let off the gas so it trans would unwind before taking the picture.

well it wouldn't be safe for me to take a picture at that speed I hit more than 120 maybe they did something else when they plugged in there tool to my ob2 port cause they didn't move my rev limiter only my govenor cause before it would stop at 105 now it doesn't.

i hit 120mph the other night....really easily actually. I guess Vince removed the limiter when he tuned my car. unfortunately my gauges max at 120mph, and i was almost at redline in 3rd by then, so i let off.
and for halfcent...what is that picture not accurate about? looks like he's at those speeds in 4th on an auto. I dont see him claiming otherwise, so you cant really call BS on it

I bounce off mine at 107 in 3rd gear and when I got reflashed for bigger tires it didnt move my speed limiter.

I was under the impression all GM cars that came with those Contenintal POS tires were limited to 116 MPH from the factory because thats the safest limit to drive with them on. On I-66 between James Madison University and Washington D.C. I regularly would get my speedometer in the 115 MPH range with plenty of pull still, but I never got it to shut off the fuel. This is a stock '08 2.2L coupe on a fairly mountainous road so its a lot of fun, but I'm hoping that my dealerships mechanics will be able to help me with that when I change my wheels and tires since my dad was the body shop manager there and we've bought our past 6 cars there.

mine used to have a limiter at 106mph. again, its been removed, so 120mph + is very easy for me these days

No you didn't.

You simply got your E16 ECM reflashed with the L61 engine program and the 16" wheel instead of the 15".

why could he not have done this? if he has a bigger than 16" wheel and is getting the computer reflashed, why would he only flash it to a 16" wheel?

for some reason over this weekend i was racing a tc with an exhaust and i topped around 105. i've been hearing people hitting higher numbers and i just want to know if anyone knows why my 06 ls auto topped that low. my 95 exploder hit 120 with 3k rpm to go.

If your car came originally with 15" wheels, thats why. There is a fuel cutoff at 105.

that is lame as hell. but i will say this. tc's(forgot to mention, a SCION) with exhausts? pain in the ass for a ls auto with just an intake. =[ especially pulling from 75. lol.

2 reasons. First, the E16 computer in the L61 engined cars will not accept the program written for a P12 computer on an LSJ car. They are not compatible.

Second, the program for the L61 cars only has two options for wheel sizes, 15 and 16. There isn't some line of code that you can modify in the program to make any size wheel you want. It makes sense if you ever get to see an actual Tech 2 plugged into a GM Dealerworld computer. You can see the option codes that you are allowed to change, like emmisions, trans types, and wheel sizes. I actually have looked at this extensively, so feel free to ask me about it if need to know more.

Now there might be something that a custom tuner like Trifecta "might" be able to do, but I doubt that highly. Most tuners simply change the values of fuel/air/ignition tables, but in doing so don't actually change the software at all. Changing wheel size would not be a table variable.
