I'm wondering what parts would be needed to install an air conditioner on a 2.2l L61 05 Cobalt that didn't come with air conditioning. I know I would need the piece of the dash to controls it, and the compressor, but what are all the parts that would be required?

You'll need a module, compresor, condensor, evaporater, what ever metering device our cars use (i've never bothered to look) all the sensors and lines.

You reall need to look and see if the evaporater can be installed easily. Some cars you can install with out pulling the dash out. In the long run, unless you do it all your self it may not be worth it.

Since no one has posted doing this kind of change we're all pretty much "shooting in the dark" with answers. Since the cobalt is all computer controlled it may be more difficult than expected. Since the ECM controls the engine RPM it probably would be difficult to get it to idle initially when the AC is turned on -- need to talk to someone who understands how the ECM software is written concerning the AC equipped engines. If the ECM just compensates for the compressor load by the data it receives from the sensors (MAF, O2, MAP, etc) then it might be a project that could be accomplished and still able to drive with no problems.

wtf? i thot all cobalts came with a/c. i got an 05 base model 2.2 and it came with it, i asked for no options what so ever, i didnt even get $80 floormats but it came with a/c n they said they all did. i ripped my a/c out tho if you maybe want to buy it, only the under hood stuff

i think all of them in the US have AC from the factory, but CA cars have it as an option
