LNf rods on a 2.2

Ok guys I've been looking for a week and finally decided to ask. The build book says we can use lsj or LNf rods so long as we use aftermarket pistons. I have a local guy selling his LNf rods. My question is with my 06 l61can I run LNf rods and if so what will it do to the compression? Will it lower it to 9:1 like the LNf or raise it since the LNf has a very different bore

the compression will depend on the pistons you buy. And you need custom pistons to work with those rods.

You also cannot run LNF pistons in a non-DI car. When you go to order pistons order LSJ or L61 (depending on which side wrist pin the LNF uses, I'm gonna guess LSJ) and tell them you need to move the wrist pin location up in the pistons 8.6mm. That would put you at stock deck height and would give you whatever compression the piston is listed as.

Well first you need to find out if the lnf rods are the same as the lsj.

Longer rod? really? hmm that means the LNF pistons are even shorter than the LSJ ones. interesting. As long as you tell wiseco your engine, stroke, and length of the rod eye to eye they should be able to know the right piston height to give you, or if its even possible.

Ok here is the exact bill out of each engine. I am trying to determine if I can run the lnf rods I know I cannot run the pistons. If it will be more for custom pistons than ordering new rods and pistons than I am not interested in buying the rods but if I can save some money I know the lnf rods are good till 400 which is all I wish to push. See page 83-85 of the build book here is the link. http://gmtunersource.com/racertech/e...ition/download And I did notice one other thing. It says the lnf rods are made of 1019 steel the same as the l61 rods… does this mean they also fail at 250?

Just buy aftermarket rods.

If your going to go through all the trouble of building the motor man, do it right the first time. Nothing is worse than spending all the time and money into making the motor stronger and then firing it up and it blowing up because you got cheap on parts.

In the long run its not worth the hassle dude.

Just buy the Eagle rods for the 2.2....ordering custom pistons will come at a premium, at the end of the day I can almost bet you won't be saving yourself a dime trying to get the LNF rods to work.

Why buy just 2.2 eagle rods? the LNF rods are longer which makes for a better rod to stroke ratio which makes more power up top, less piston side loads, and greater applied torque from the same amount of cylinder pressure.

ok i have decided to just get eagle rods, but i would still like to find out if there is a benefit to lnf rods. if we can run lnf rods then why not just pay the extra 100 bucks or so for custom pistons with the eagle lnf rods and get the benifits of longer rods with the benifits of 4340 forged steel...?

You don't need it. Eagle rods are more than enough for you.

And to answer your question no because the lnf rods are forged steel whereas the l61 rods are cast

Um the eagle rods are 4340. And if I'm not mistaken the lnf rods are 1019. And the eagle rods are good for 550hp

ok guys i hate to keep bothering you but i just found a set of lsj rods and pistons, are these a direct swap into my 2.2 l61 or will they require other modifications? Or could i run just the rods with aftermarket pistons. I am trying to save on cost and only need it to hold a ported m62 with a 2.6 and meth. So 300 is my hp goal and that will be easily done with lsj rods and pistons.

I believe it will work. MAY put the pistons above the deck by a tiny bit, not totally sure. The different in that combo and the stock l61 rods is that the LSJ piston pin is larger (doesnt affect you) and the rods are longer (may affect you).

Have you considered just picking up an 06-07 LE5 block? That would be the most cost effective option that I've seen so far

I have considered it, but the problem comes with making it stand up no one makes pistons or rods for the 2.4 and the factory ones stop at 300 hp

zzp makes pistons for it and i think you can just use the lsj rods if im not mistaken
plus cams and valve springs and neutral balance shaft delete you should be pushing 300 of more

You shouldn't need rods/pistons for that power level. That's the whole point of swapping to it, it's like a budget forged build
