look what I did!
I've been planning on buying the gmpp intake, but I am trying to save up to buy a house, so spending extra money isn't really something i'm wanting to do. So I decided to find an alternative. I, like most everyone else, was looking for performance gains and increased fuel economy.
So I went to autozone and picked up some flexible hose, and a small breather. I ran the hose from the throttle body to the air box, using the rubber pieces to help everything seal up better. the breather then went on the hole in the valve cover.
It actually made a noticeable difference in performance, above 3,000 it seems to pull a little harder. the sound is very much the same as before, at idle there is no difference, up to 3,000 the sound is SLIGHTLY louder, above 3,000 it is noticeable, but far from loud or annoying. on the highway there is no difference.
on a scale of 1-10 I would say it was about a .5 on the difficulty level, took me about 3 minutes to put on. the best part is what the spendometer saw, only $37.99 with tax.
I have the lower intake part before the filter removed and a gmpp touring exhaust. for those who want to know. the sound is very tame, not enough for anyone outside the car to give you a 2nd look, but enough that you know what the engine is doing.

that pepboys one looks pretty good.
sure the turbulence could hurt performance, but look at what happens with the stock thing. look what happens after the throttle body. lots of turbulence there.
I know its not very scientific, but the butt dyno is telling me its working pretty well. i'm even seeing an increase in fuel economy (back and forth to work, same speed, same everything) according to the dic.
eventually I will spring for a gmpp intake, but for the time being this isn't bad for the money.

where did the rumor get started that the OEM intake system was bad?
after market ones do sound cooler, sure, but i don't think my car is any faster with one.

It's a good buy if u can put it together without it breaking. Im just going to get a intake boot and have a muffler shop bend a pipe for me. Will give updates on how it goes friday.

what do you mean without it breaking? i don't think there was ever a concern about it breaking.

who remembers the washing machine hose held on by duct tape, and the guy was saying how he invented this great new mod?
this is bad, but not as bad as the other guy.
