loss of power
05 Cobalt 2.2L 50,520 miles auto tranny.
Lately the muffler has been sounding loud, but I'm not sure if this is whats causing the issue. When we need a demand of power such as passing or on ramp of highway the tranny somewhat hesitates to down shift. I also have noticed maybe a loss of highend power. What do you recommend checking first? I have cleaned the throttle body already and installed a bottle of fuel system cleaner. Didn't really help. Would replacing the fuel filter help? I've owned a saturn ion before and I think it ran better than this chevy. Thanks in advance,
Edward

Even with no code and at 50K? my old 97 2.4L cavalier had a cat problem but it threw a code. about an hour ago I just changed the fuel filter, probably will help but I feel like it could be doing better.

checks all of these
cat/s
o2 sensor
trans fluid level and color/smell(i ripped through three transmissions in an old maxima before i finally clued in that burnt trans fluid means there is an issue)
fuel filter
fuel pump
injectors
if ANY of these are not working proerly you could have this issue... if your cat is gone which it sounds like it is, that will cause higher exhaust volumes. have your local exhaust or trusted auto shop check it out. a blown out cat wont always throw a code, and at the same time if it is the cat have them check the o2 sensor... dont blow that off! if your o2 sensor is bad then you could be running rich or lean and that will cause your cats to fry one after the other. check EVERYTHING i listed

Well the car is back from dealership, they checked the injectors and hooked up the tech II tool up and said the nox readings were ok and the air to fuel was ok. He found there was a needed update on the PCM for drivability and shifting. Now the car is much much better. Time for modding, lol.
