LSJ Header/DP on L61 - Possible issues?
Forgive me if this has been discussed before.
I have a 2.2. I've been planning to swap my header/dp with that of a stock LSJ. I've got the parts lined up to buy actually.
A few issues that have been brought up to me have me second guessing the idea.
#1 - The header would need to be honed to match the 2.2 engine's back-pressure requirements? If this isn't done, I'm told I'll have problems.
#2 - It was mentioned that if I were planning to do this I would need to also be considering upgrading the engine internals, injectors and tuning....one concern voiced was that I could possibly max out the duty cycle of my fuel injectors.
I think those two were the biggest concerns that were mentioned. Anyone with any knowledge in this area care to chime in?
Keep in mind, I am somewhat noobish at doing performance mods, so please use lehmans terms whenever possible

#2 also bogus 1) because I've done 6 dyno runs, and 3 of witch were after the 2.4 intake manifold swap and the car is still Running WAY rich. 2) You're not going to max out these injectors unless you use a turbo or NOS. Same goes for engine internals youre no where near their capibilities.

#1 is bogus, I'm not getting into the backpressure debate theres too many misconceptions on this and many threads if you search. Use the LSJ head cause its cheap, and it works. Porting or "honeing" it will only make it flow better and yeild a better possible gain.

#2 - My thinking was that I would be needing to produce a much larger HP increase to warrant changing internals or injectors. Guess you confirmed that for me.

Yup yup
I've got just about everything you can to to the L61 without going into the motor.
GMPP Intake
GMPP Cat Back
LSJ Manifold
LSJ Downpipe
2.4 Intake Manifold
and its consistantly laying down mid 150 HP and Mid 140 Tq
Anything more its going to be Cams and tuning (tuning not available yet), or adding NOS or Turbo.

I'll have pretty well the same setup as you by early fall. I have the Injen intake so far and I'll be doing catback soon. I'm not convinced I want the 2.4 intake manifold yet..the whole loss of some low end hp/tq is keeping me from buying it atm.

You're missing out, on the 2.4 manifold. Its a kick in the nuts, at 55 and grab 3rd, next thing you know your pullin 85 and reaching for 4th.
I understand what youre saying, but that lil bit of loss there is equal to running down the hiway and your A/C pump comming on, if youre trying to make a move your RPMS are not there, and if they are youre in the wrong gear.
But hey to each their own, and all I know is I won't be without it.
