Megasquirt standalone for 2.2's 05-06
recently i have been doing some research on the standalone megasquirt program for cars. my buddy has a Ford Probe and he engine swapped it for a Mazda version of his V6 (japanese version had better parts and more HP) and he is using the Megasquirt right now.
he showed me breifly what his is set up like. But my concern is how hard it would be to use on a New car like the 06 cobalt verses his 90's Probe. a lot of differences so input is apreciated on what u know about this program. thanks

IDK anything about the megasquirt, but from what I understand the problem with standalones is usually that while you can control the fuel injectors, etc creature comforts such as air conditioning may not work.

it would be easy enough with a cobalt. Basically the megasquirt would take over all the operations of the pcm(or as many as you wanted it to control). As far as I know you would keep all of your luxuries like a/c and p/s, etc by leaving the bcm to control them. I'm pretty sure if you completely remove the pcm from the car and disconnect it from the rest of the vehicle then the lan system would shut down the other ecus. But as long as you leave the pcm in and just disconnect it from the engine sensors and such you'll be ok.
I might be wrong. I'm pretty sure it's never been done on a cobalt so I'm not too sure if that's how it would work or not.

I don't know anyone who actually has a working setup with an Ion or Cobalt but from what I've been reading so far...
you can use MS to control your fuel injectors and your ignition system...for the fuel you just wire your injectors directly to the MS unit and for the ignition you have to actually convert to a diff. type of system...like a Ford ignition setup IIRC. Then the MS has complete control over both fuel and ignition and you don't have any tuning issues because of the limits of the stock PCM. The only problem I can see other than tuning is that your stock PCM will freak out because it is no longer controlling any fuel or ignition which will probably throw codes but other than the tuning and setup of MS itself thats the only issue I am aware of.

as far as 05-06 cobalts go it looks doable. The fuel part is pretty straight forward, but the ignition requires some changing.
http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/ex...tup-gmdis.html
looks like wopontour made a good write up on it awhile back
as far as the ignition module and other sensors, I found this list of things needed to replace:
1992-1995 2.2L VIN 4
DIS Module- AC DELCO PN# D1996A
Alloy Bracket for D1996A – PN#10495161
DIS Coils for D1996A- AC DELCO PN# D555
Harness Connectors (3) for D1996A:
C1 AC DELCO PN# PT787 (6-way)
C2 AC DELCO PN# PT782 (3-way)
C3 AC DELCO PN# PT1798 (2-way P2S)
This should be a compatible crank sensor:
1994-1995 2.2 VIN 4: AC DELCO PN# 213-148
here's a wiring diagram from the site:
More or less you're just cutting your pcm out of the picture and wiring everything up as obd 1. But this will allow you to use the MSnS to it's full potential.

well from what I've seen, the megasquirt is mostly based on an obd 1 setup. It has a hard time reading digital inputs would be my best guess.
I'm not even going to pretend that I know all the details. I'm mostly going off of what the guys on the megasquirt forums are telling me and the write-up wopontour made.
