I had a 2.2 LT model before I got my SS. **** breaks tires easy from a dead stop. Gutless from a roll though. I drove it eeeeasy too. Was getting over 33mpg in the city. Dare I note that I live at over 5k elevation? Car was also running a solid 17.5 second 1/4 mile. I wouldn't say they're entirly gutless.

Hows it do if you do a torque multiplier? Downshift into 1st gear, which takes off the traction control (if you have it) Hold the gas pedal down while holding the brake pedal. Should hold the RPM at like a solid 2400. Then let off the brake pedal. Should spin the tires easy, even with good tread.

I agree with the other guys about changing the fuel filter. If that doesn't work, check and see if the fuel pump is putting out sufficiant pressure. Has your gas milage changed at all? Might want to try some injector cleaner too.

Second off, I would change the fuel filter, if you haven't yet, as well as run SeaFoam through the oil, through the gas, and through a vacuum line.
hey easy partner .... i have a ss/sc, but i will admit you can break the tires loose in a stock 2.2. a buddy of mine has a 5 speed 2.2 thats stock except for a free flowing muffler, and i must say its pretty peppy.

Yeah the 2.2 5-speed is pretty peppy. Not fast in any sense, but not horribly slow either. I can easily chirp the tires in first and even second to an extent. Even turn sometimes you'll hear them.

seriously though, in an retarded way he makes sense. On NA and SC cars u can actually see a loss in power if the exhaust is too free flowing due to loss of back pressure.

I dont think it was his intention, but that does make sense.

Anyways, what mods have u done to the car?

I didnt think of this until that guy was being an ass and made that remark. If u think about the way mods affect performance too, CAI or equivalent affects the bottom end. Exhaust and equivalent affects the top end.

He may have lost power in the bottom and replaced it with top end power. Or as I stated, hes just losing power from back pressure loss.

i agree with you .... i believe with a larger exhaust it shifts power from the low end and sends it up top .... this makes the car seem slower. exhaust gas velcoity is key though. keeping the exhaust flowing fast yet free will net the best gains.

i dont get why people say this is impossible in an ls? i'm 6'000 ft above sea level and my 2.2 wheel hops BAD in 1st, 2nd, and i break traction in third. Not spinning wheels but more of a chirp. Also, I'm on 17 x 7.5 wheels with hankook rubber. If i was at sea level i could only imagine lol.

So i'm not sure why you guys say that

The car does wheel hop bad in 1st, especially in the rain. Some days, you can feel the traction loss in 2nd.

my ls 5spd will definitely break, well one wheel...on dry pavement, bouncing the whole way into second, but i have noticed lately that its isnt as peppy as when i got it..i have an ss catback w a flomaster knockoff muffler and i did notice the power shift alot higher when i put that on but lately its just seemed like a turd( more than normal anyway lol) is it just the 2.2s?

I agree.

Unless the tires are worn or if you have way more power than stock, you won't chirp them in 3rd.

i think it may have something to do with the engine....like, the fact that its probably under 150horsepower.... and new cars always feel really fast even if your last car was 100hp and this one is 150. but then you get used to it so it doesn't seem fast. thats why i keep buying things
