I had a 2.2 LT model before I got my SS. **** breaks tires easy from a dead stop. Gutless from a roll though. I drove it eeeeasy too. Was getting over 33mpg in the city. Dare I note that I live at over 5k elevation? Car was also running a solid 17.5 second 1/4 mile. I wouldn't say they're entirly gutless.
Hows it do if you do a torque multiplier? Downshift into 1st gear, which takes off the traction control (if you have it) Hold the gas pedal down while holding the brake pedal. Should hold the RPM at like a solid 2400. Then let off the brake pedal. Should spin the tires easy, even with good tread.
I agree with the other guys about changing the fuel filter. If that doesn't work, check and see if the fuel pump is putting out sufficiant pressure. Has your gas milage changed at all? Might want to try some injector cleaner too.

so many angry elfs in this thread. can't we all just get along? wait...nvm, its the internet. that would be impossible. cause everyone has to always try to one-up the person that last said something. like what they say actually has any effect on anyone's life

old pictures before my sc was modded. and i'm glad i didn't waste my time on the ls

i ca n break my tires loose on my ls...
lawl...i didnt even read the thread...i went up from my post and saw my name though...on to reading
so very WRONG
its been discussed before..you dont want backpressure..you want the perfect sized exahust that creats a vacuum while no backpressure...
i have to agree 11enty billion times over...i hate that ****
ya, 2.2s and 2.4s are not that far off...and all in all the s/c's are not as far off stock as they would like to think...
i can break loose a little (not all the way, just slip them) going into third on the street if NLSing...
oh, and for the OP, try clicking your EBRAKE up ONE notch and itll turn off traction control....now you can spin your tires in an auto...

Well, most people on here are dicks to us 2.2L's.
No, it's called - No one here wants to hear you guys rip on our cars because you drive a more superior model..
Have you ever heard the saying - If you don't have anything nice to say, keep your ******* trap shut?
Plus, a LS/TC would burn an SS/SC, one that is pretty modded, at that. I've seen it, many of times.

And they weight about 300lbs less then a cobalt...although i do believe a stock 2.2 balt ran a 15.6. Yet doesn't get close to the 14.95 ran by a stock 2.4.

can you not read? This has been disccused before. Its like talking to a bunch of teenage girls on their periods on here....say a few choice words and people get upset.

the only way to tell for sure is to get them together at the same time on the track, or at least on the same night and then run it...

waaaay too much bickering amongst fellow cobalt owners. Just stop whining about having a slower car, and stop ragging on the 2.2 guys for having the car they do. Get back to the purpose of this thread, which is explaining why the OP cant break traction now when he used to be able to

i agree with you .... i believe with a larger exhaust it shifts power from the low end and sends it up top .... this makes the car seem slower. exhaust gas velcoity is key though. keeping the exhaust flowing fast yet free will net the best gains.
^ thats what I said in another post about exhaust systems .... so many people on here think getting the biggest exhaust possible is best and that zero back pressure is the best .... WRONG

Im sorry my post came off as "rude" but its also the truth. 9 out of 10 people will see your muffler removed and say "there goes another dumb ricer wanting his car louder". The 1 out of that group that does not think that is prolly a buddy of yours thats done the same thing to his car.
If i saw a stock Mustang GT with his mufflers removed (even tho it sounds better) he still needs to put the mufflers back on. He isnt driving a race car. I dont care what kind of Cobalt, Cavi, import, car you drive or even how fast or slow it is....... Keep it clean and tasteful.
Agian sorry it came off as rude it was ment to be more of a FYI.

You don't want backpressure but you don't want an exhaust too big to where it will slow down exhaust velocity. Minimize backpressure while maximizing velocity is the key. A smaller exhaust (stock) will have a good velocity but too much backpressure..too large (say 3" on a 4 banger) and you have les back pressure but you slowed down the exhaust velocity cause you aren't moving enough air to take advantage of the bigger area its flowing through. In the middle you have minimized backpressure without sacraficing velocity.
