my gas millage?

I dont get as much out of a tang of gas as some other 2.2 owners i have spoken to. I have a magnaflow muffler welded on (fart can) do you think that could do anything to my gas milage? is that the possible reason or can it be anything else?

Probably not. What are you getting? More then likely it's how you drive or a dirty air filter or fuel filter. Check you tire pressure to.

its about how you drive mostly, a dirty air filter might be 1 or 2 mpgs, and tire pressure, but if you shift at 2500 vs 5500 you're obliviously going to get better gas mileage

Do an engine tune up; new plugs, wires, oil change, check tire pressure. You could also invest in a Boost/Vacuum gauge. Closer to atmospheric pressure you are, the more fuel you will use. It's how I drive in my SS/SC, I hit 53 MPG on the highway.

Set your cruise and easy on the pedal. No need to race everywhere you go.

This is simply how I do it.

^^^ What he said

Also how well maintained your vehicle is makes a big difference. Have you changed your filters, fluids, spark plugs?

Terrain also plays a huge role on mileage. Example is I live in Las Vegas NV, and when I drive up to Lee Canyon I only get about 18 MPG but on my way back down I get almost 70MPG at 75MPH.

Wires...lol. The rest of this is spot on though. It is really hard to compare your fuel economy with someone elses. Especially if they live in different areas, have different modifications, etc.

I'd check your air filter and tire pressure, those are 2 things that can kill your mpg

Exactly what I do. Just remember, slow and steady wins the race. Also, different grades of fuel achieve different amounts of mileage. If you can, avoid hitting red lights. Try and roll to the light and keep it rolling; without running the light. Starting and stopping kills your mileage.

Everyone has different ways of driving. I know what works for me. I clutch out when I go downhill too.

change your pcv valve. its one of the most overlooked tune up parts and it will help you out tremendously if its dirty or clogged

In actuality...the air pressure in the tires is somewhat of an old wives tale. YES...it does help your MPG's. HOWEVER, it only helps with about 1 MPG...IF THAT! Another thing to consider is if you've bought new tires recently, that will kill your gas milage. Yet another thing to consider is if you've upsized to a larger tire...that will REALLY kill your gas milage.

Um... Think about what you just said. Changing the pcv valve on these engines means replacing the whole valve cover since its built in. I mean sure you can clean the things, just have to take the cover off.

I just got 28 mpg's country driving on my latest tank, that is with a blower and a lighter car, but for some reason stock for stock your cobalt guys get better gas mileage. I've been working on my tune which has got me up from 25 mpg. Of course I enjoy the car and it sees wide open practically every time it gets driven.
