I would stay away from any belt-driven power adders since they use hp to make hp. Go turbo. Not much difference in price that I can see from their respective websites.

i'd say turbo is the better way to go. keep in mind, garrett's 'turbo alpha kit' includes an ecm reflash, but it won't work if your car is an '07 (different ecm). so you'll want to buy their 'turbo gt tuner kit' (difference is $500 cheaper, no ecm tune) and then tune with LS2edit, or whatever else is available at that time.

Hold on now....everyones jumping to turbo....lets lay out the options
Turbo gives you great controlled driveability. It really doesn't remove horsepower and adds a good amount. However it also means your going to be needing coolant lines to the bearings (means tapping your oil pan more than likely) and your going to need an intercool installed. It also means your going to be getting boost, be it 2psi or 20psi no matter where you go, depending on what you've set your controller at.
Prochargers give you all the air flow based on RPM's of the crank. Your adding mass to the crank (indirectly) and having it spin the fan. It's a great thing if your a higher end guy, means the farther you crank it the more PSI you get out of the procharger. Means your going to have a little bit of boost of for the day to day driving with no need to tap anything, and no belts, no exhast, but also means your going to have to go ***** to the wall if you want serious boost.
Centrifugal superchargers seem to be up in the air, while they take away horsepower, they also give it. Once again, this system is based off RPM's and how fast your belt is spinning. I'd personally go with the roots style blower that comes in the kit from gmdirect...considering the tuning for that is readily available from GM, it'd be a day install and a couple of hours to upload the tune (gm style suggest a telegraph input lol)
I'd go with the turbo if you don't mind the extra quipment that comes with it, and the tapping of your oil pan. Tons of power with a time lag
I'd go procharger if its your daily driver and you only want your power on the higher end of the cars rpm range with zero lag
I'd go supercharger if you want to go tuneable daily driveable power with that initial lose 25hp gain 75hp tradeoff you do

if you stay out of the throttle with a turbo, you don't make boost. max boost is much easier to control with a turbo system. usually with a supercharger system, changing max boost involves changing pulleys. yes, you need to plumb oil and coolant lines for the turbo, but on these motors, it's not really a big deal. we could argue all day about what's better, but really comes down to personal preference. drive some sc cars, drive some turbo cars (cobalts if you can), and decide what you like better, also ask owners of f/i balts what they like and dislike about their own setups. i love turbocharged cars, but don't mind a supercharger. if i had the option, i'd do turbo.

prochargers need power to make power....hence they work well in V8/V6 cars....Turbos just need exhaust...and out of boost turboed motors are effiecient as hell
turbo blowoff and procharger blowoff...are about the same in sound

I dont know ANYONE who put a turbo or supercharger on their 2.2 and "easily" made 300hp. Maybe with an engine rebuild and a stronger tranny...but then you wont be able to stop worth a crap, so there goes another 1200+ for a big brake kit, then youre probly gonna bust you axles... almost everyone here would agree that the highest safe #s for a 2.2 is around 250, I would stay 225 or less to be safe, if it were me.

ok i was looking at speed mafia's prochargers and they have one for the 2.0L cobalt ss and one for a 2.2L ion which one would work?? are they the same??

prochargers quality is lacking and you may want to keep some extra head gaskets and main seals handy. I worked there and all of the pony powered guys not to mention bowtie guys were always having issues with leaks or driveability issues. I would say if you are going to do it...start by building the engine on motor power adders as per the GM ecotec performance recipe book....that way you will have better luck than just bolting on a power adder.....or you can go turbo but keep your boost levels down unless you want to break something......who knows maybe GM and Eaton have a 2.2 roots charger kit in the works......good luck
