A new hope (Trifecta Tune)

Hello Ladies and Maniacs, it is my pleasure tonight to ask you a few questions to which I hope that u will answer.

I need to know how much HP i would stand to gain just by doing a trifecta tune, no mods or anything else done to the car. I want to do an N/A build which I have waiting for a while to do and now is the time to strike! I have a few surprises for the community which I would love to flaunt.

I would love to get this car around 170+ hp, that would make my day.

U would be correct sir. I have a 2.2L 2007 silver sedan. I want to squeeze as much horsepower as I can out of her. I have no mods at all except for removing the annoying air resonator from the airbox.

Like I said above I am hoping to get around the 170/180+HP range. I have a good feeling that I will only be able to attain that is if I get the 2.4 intake mani, and a few other mods.

Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

you wont get that power with a tune but RL at 7300 can you make you happy

I set a G5 at 7600 rpm with only a intake.
- this guy own a srt4 before so his G5 is nothing compare to his srt4
-rpm he wanted so rpm I proposed to him a 7600 rpm and he accepted it so........
on stock 2.2 it hard to get something but removed TS and RL at 7300 it priceless according to me

A cam? U mean the overhead cams?

How much HP would I gain if I got a trifecta tune and the 2.4 intake/TB. Baby steps, one at a time. I really dont want to rush this with things I dont know, especially since she is the only car my family has and is my daily driver.

Hmm I'm gonna like this.

Then where should I start off. I need to get 2.4L parts: 2.4 mani, and the 2.4 TB. Is there anything else I should get? I think I need a gasket or something for it. And do i need to change any parts on my car. Again, its a 2007 2.2L so it should just bolt on, right?

Another question for you enthusiasts; would I damage my engine if I ran a 91 octane tune along with a higher redline? This my family's only car and it is my daily driver so I don't want to rebuild the engine every few months.

Total exageration but you get what I mean, I just don't want any screw ups.

If you do a 50 shot, is it still considered N/A? If so, there you go. Cheap and simple, if you know what you are doing.

You will need new cams, full bolt ons, and a tune in order to achieve 180+whp on the L61. There are a couple people on here already who have done so. Try following their builds. And if this car is the only car in your family, then I would stay away from cams. If they aren't installed correct(timing), you will need new valves. That isnt cheap, especially if you dont know how to fix it yourself. Good luck

I still think you'd be 10+ HP short. Lightweight pulleys wont add horsepower either, they just make it so you can get into the higher powerband quicker and access HP quicker, but will not show results on a dyno.

I like how everyone is forgetting that cams for an 07 L61 are pretty much non-existant...remember that little thing called a cam position sensor...yeah....there's what, 1 set of cams floating around here (someone had them and sold them to another member).

Forget the tune to begin with. Forget the 2.4 mani and tb to start with. Start with intake, header, dp, cat-back. Then go with the 2.4 mani and tb and tune all at once. You need to be tuned to run the TB anyway. And, there's no point in getting a tune now just to redo it later when you've done more to your car...you have to re-tune every time you change something as the tune is specific to your mods.

I forgot to mention...I don't know if you're looking for crank or wheel HP with your numbers, but 170-180 CRANK HP should be attainable with the intake, 2.4mani/tb, header, dp, cat-back, tune.

crank, yes. Wheel, no.

As for the cams, I'm pretty sure someone said something about removing the sensor off your stock cams and putting it on the new ones...

The Cavs and Sunfires with your mods list have been getting 165hp at the motor.
Your Cobalt starts with a little more HP and TQ to start with.

170hp at the motor is possible.
I am not ricer mathing this out, it is just hard to imagine a Cobalt starting with more power, and has the same mods will land the same output.

It could possibly not add to max output but have a lot more on tap at other areas within the RPM band.

talk to vince, you actually dont need that sensor and could install a cam from an 06 in there and just ahve it tuned out
