New wheel question

Hey I just got a 09 Cobalt 2.2 L this march. Im looking to get new rims for the summer. Im looking at getting MSR 045 rims. I wanna get 17x7 inch , obviously stock is 16", I wont have any noticable difference sizing up just an inch will I?

go big or go home

Unless ur getting the 17's on a good buy. go bigger. i run 18" ICW racing rims there 18x7.5 and they fit super nice on the car.

to my knowledge anything bigger than 18's may require some custom work to get them to not rub

Your MPH WILL be off.

on my 18's my speedometer is 3mph off from stock.

stock tires are 195/60r/15

my rims are 225/40r/18

whatever the weird mumbo jumbo math is in there equals out to a 3mph difference in my speedometer

but i have a GPS that tells me how fast im going. so i dont really use my speedometer anyways. haha

According to a tire size calculator your tires are only .6 mph slower at 60 mph. Which is pretty negligible.

Thanks guys I know I can safely go up to 19" without rubbing I was mostly concerned about speedometer difference. I hear it only will effect it by less than 1mph. Im hoping thats the case but I would go bigger but budget is a issue plus I plan on lowering the car later next year anyways.

from my experience it will be a few mph off. but nothing major like 10mph

my stockers are 15's my rims are 18's and when i have my rims on im 3mph off...

GPS says so. Police radar said so... but dont worry u be fine.

no, your not off by 3 mph, you're off by a certain percentage. How far off you are depends on speed. Buy the correct size tire to minimize the difference.

good tire size calculator

wheel size doesnt matter, just get the appropriate size tire to keep it the same. if you get 18's and your stock size is 195-60-15 for example, then get 215-35-18 and your speedometer will be the same

17s are cheaper for tires. If I ever get new rims I'll probably get 17" rims if I don't pick up some lnf rims.
