and about the cat-back, go w/either 2.25", but no bigger than 2.5", and idk about the cats, someone at a shop told me not to b/c i'd throw a CEL and i'd make me lose hp

As for exhaust ....on an LS you do not need anything more than a 2.25 or 2.50 uless you plan on running boost. GM makes a great exhaust for the BALT look on here if interested http://www.crateenginedepot.com/stor...P1379C146.aspx it is the GMPP Performance Exhaust

Just because people drive more 2.2 base models than SS/SC doesn't mean that every person is looking for a PCM tuners. Chances are that the "performance" or higher model cars are going to have more owners who are into it.
Sorry but most base model car owners are cheap and they say what they want but never really get it. People like knowing they "could" get something if they ever wanted to but chances are, they won't.

Soundwise, not sure

I was talking to a guy at a performance shop in the area, and he was of the opinion that there was not much power to be gained with tuning with the 2.2. He felt that GM had done a pretty good job with the stock configuration and probably only 5hp or so was available through a tune. This confused me a little, because lots of cars out there (4 cyl) included have chips out there that give more than that, so I figured that there would be more with a custom tune. Opinions?

auto manufacturers these days tune their engines VERY well, leaving VERY few horses to be gained simply through tuning the engine.
