Fo realz! I honestly am kinda taken back by how it looks in the car. I let Jimmy do his thing and design it however he wanted / what he had in mind that would be the best setup for the car. He was welding the tubing fully in some areas today and things are looking good to hopefully have 7.50+ cert and painted by next week!

Not trying to be a dick, but just FYI those spots/particles in the weld are caused by using too much filler. Ease up a little on the filler or use a fatter tungsten and they will go away, make the weld stronger

No worries man Good looking out! I'm sure the rest of it will be just fine and I'll make sure to take a look when I see the car on Tuesday.

Few more pictures...funny car cage finally taking shape and final welds are going in for most of the cage. Was hoping to be further along on the build but hey...stuff happens. Door "X" bars and rest of the funny car cage are next.

Thank you! I would agree and I know that when it's all done, it'll have been worth the wait. If you anyone has followed this thread from the beginning or for a while, thank you. Support from the community is a big thing to me...I may not be a RWD conversion like my buddy Rod...but it's been a hell of an adventure!

Definitely! If the car doesn't go down the track this year...then something gotta change...tired of waiting on this and want to have piece of mind knowing that it at least runs.

Couple new pics from the weekend.

Such cage. Such go. Wow. Such Awesome. Much safe. Wow. Very cash.

My new Kirkey Racing seat sitting in the Cobalt. Not yet set, gotta raise it up about 4 inches otherwise I'll be staring at the dash instead of the track .

The mad scientist Jimmy Almany of Almany Chassis Design doing work!

Haven't done this in a while! Again, the seat will sit up a bit higher once in its final place...kinda need to see the track .

My wing that will be going onto the car! Of course the color will change / get a wrap. Lots of parts are staring to file in!

Wing support bars and mounts.

Brand new Stroud 430 parachute that will be stopping my ass from 180mph+!

And the rest of the air launcher parachute system. This is a serious setup...I feel like John Hammond saying this...but, "Spared no expense!"

More non-sense to come soon!

Just winging it now! The wing and supports have been placed on the car and I gotta say...it looks sick! The color will be changing like previously stated before, but you get the point. Air launched parachute / mount looks like it'll be going next, Jimmy needed to see the wing in place first.

Chassis work is at about 90% and starting to come to a close with 95% of the main cage done. Finishing up the funny car cage and a few small odds and ends by the end of the week...THEN COMES THE MOTOR!

My car requires a funny car cage...does yours?

Huge THANK YOU to Jimmy Almany of Almany Chassis Design for taking on this unique project and delivering fantastic results.

I'll add some more shots later...

Here's the rest of the pictures from today's install of the funny car cage. The cage as a whole is done and there's only a few things left to do for the chassis, (shock tower reinforcement / down bars / bar for the fuel cell, intercooler, more goodies ).

How are you going about tuning this? Keeping the Eco 2.2 in there? Looks amazing with the cage

We are going to be using a tuning software that is well known in Brazil called Pro Tune. We have used it on our ProFWD car here in Orlando and have seen fantastic results with 7.43 at 195 mph.

We have the GM racing Pro engine that's at about 2.16L.

Thanks for the comments guys, means a lot!

I assume they had a custom harness made for the motor and it won't work with the PCM in the car? Are you stripping the chassis computer so you have to run all new cluster/gauges? Sounds pretty neat though. I was eyeing up a motor from gm performance 6 years ago but I already built mine. Looks sweet. Keep it up!

Custom harness, you betcha! This is a full standalone unit that actually is going to help replace a lot of other parts that were int he cars when GM was racing them. No longer need the standalone + boost controller + data logger + more. It's all wrapped up into one with newer technology.

More info:
Pro Tune - Sistemas Eletrônicos - Dash Loggers, ECU, Lambda Meter, Injeção Eletrônica, Eletrônica de Competição, Data Logger

Yes, the gauges are all gone. It'll have this to replace it .

Thank you for the support! Remember guys, if you have questions...I'll do my best to get some answers back to you asap!

Few photos from my visit to the car a couple of days ago. Things are looking great and we're making a push to motor work now / getting everything else involved with the powertrain ready. Here's some pics from my visit!

Btw: if you want updates on this project as soon as they happen...follow @RollermanDan on Instagram.

Motor prep!

Sitting in the "office."

Talking with Jimmy about where the parachute pull point should be placed.

Getting a feel for where things will be placed .

Thank you for viewing and check back again soon for more updates!

My car is back at Horsepower Sales and should be picking up pace again with the build now back in our hands. Thank you to all of you that have been patient with this build! I know you're seeing a lot of similar photos and not too much in the "progress" aspect...but it's there under the hood .

Never seem this thread before until today. I just read an hour's worth. It's crazy ****. How the hell, and I really don't understand this, can you stick to a project for so long?

I mean, I admire the crap out of you. But, of course we know 99% or more of people wouldn't have stayed the course since 2007. Hell, I get Cobalt love, I probably won't ever sell my 06 SS/SC, that whine, but you must have been tempted on MANY occasions to just bolt it back up with a decent solution running, no?
