Official Stg 1 & Stg 2 Comp Cams Review/Info Thread
Post your review and any information you have about the Stage 1 or Stage 2 Competition Cams, JPB cams or any other brand.
Stage 1 Comp Cams Review:
For anyone who already has all the basic bolt-on's like CAI, Intake Mani, Header, Dp, Catback.............
STG. 1 cams are a great way to make use of those mods. I would recommend that you get some form of tuning when installing these otherwise you won't get the full Hp Gains. Also I strongly suggest you get the Ecotec Camshaft Sprocket Holding Tool (Part# J-43655) since it makes the cam swap much easier and less costly if your having a shop install them. The Camshaft Sprocket Bolts are not re-usable so p/up 2 of those from your local GM Dealership before you start your project. (About $10 Each) I decided to get a new OEM valve cover gasket (About $65) but some members said that it can be saved and re-used so that's your choice. My install cost was 3 hours Labour.
Lots more Hp and Torque above 3000 rpm's. I would estimate about 10-15 Hp after the trifecta tune and using 92 oct. fuel. If your not upgrading your springs, retainers and Seats then I don't recommend going past the stock redline (6500 Rpm's)
The car idles at around 1100 rpm's and sounds like a drag racer about to launch and that get's people staring at you alot if you like that sort of thing.
The car vibrates more with the cams and I don't have any Poly engine or trans. mounts so if you have solid mounts get ready for some vibes. My exhaust tone is louder since the cams push more air out than before but it's still reasonable. That's why I decided to go with a custom 2 1/4" Dp and the GMPP Touring catback just to keep noise levels down on long road trips.
Alright here's some video clips as req. by Copson20, PenguinPie and others
#1. Before the STG. 1 Cams with all the basic bolt-on and a trifecta tune

#2. After STG.1 Cams + New Tune at Idle and a couple of revs

#3. Start from inside the car, Idle. Notice how when you start it the rpm's bounce up and down twice then it stabilizes and idles at around 1100 rpm's

#4. 1st, 2nd and 3rd Gear during regular driving. Notice towards the end of the video when I lay off the gas it's very quiet almost like stock.

#5. Highway drive with the windows closed just to show you it's as quiet as when it was stock.

so for stage 1 cams, a tune is not needed right away, but would the car run like crap without the tune?
Also how would the car run if you had it tuned already for just full bolt-ons?

Yes it runs like crap just ask any member who installed cams they will agree and I got a C.E.L. within 10 minutes of driving. 3 days after installing them I had the Trifecta GT Tuner delivered with a new tune for STG. 1 cams.

my redline is set to 7,100
Well since the 05 and 06's are missing the base running airflow table in the Ecu Vince couldnt change how the throttle blade opens and closes cause the engine must more are flow now with the cams. it is only at start up it is a little choppy . but other than that it runs smooth at WOT very very responsive. vince has my car running 27 degrees of timing 21 at idle that is nuts.

On my older balt my tune bumped the redline to 7k and it ran like a champ but I wouldn't trust anything higher.
