ok, so i just took it for a drive and it sits at about 40psi at idle, 70-80 while cruising and actually spiked up to 100 when wot....

could it be that when readings are taken from the head they are twice as much not half as much???

Actually the oil pump valve relief regulates at 8.5 bar... that's 120 psi and this is the pressure I'm seeing at WOT even with hot oil...

Absolutely

This is 100% stupid, but it is the OE spec.
fyi, GM racing lowers it to ~6 bar
the BTCC 300bhp N/A engine has it lowered to 5 bar.

To get to the factory sending unit you really need to take off the intake manifold (2.2/2.4)...so yea, it is a pain.

Maybe in France. My oil pressure does not go much over 70 PSI even in WOT when at normal operating temperature.

Bad measuring point I guess... (EDIT : in fact, saw your topic and the measuring point is good)

The regulated 8.5 bar are reached at WOT and at approximately 5500 rpm in my case

From the old build book (2nd edition)

The production lubrication system is used on all wet sump
ECOTEC race engines, including the OE gerotor-style oil
pump. This oil pump supplies a constant 125 PSI at all
engine speeds. (Fig. 137)
