ok HUGE PROBLEM

OK Last night my car stopped going into 1st and 2nd gear smoothly...i installed a cosmo short shifter about a month ago...everything worked perfectly...then last night when to put it into 1st gear....goes in smooth...let off of the clutch to start moving and it pops out of gear...if i let off the clutch SLOWLY and barely give it gas it will CLUNK then go into gear and will stay into 1st...then shift to second no problem at all when i push the clutch in...let the clutch out...ZZZZZZZZ bad sound!!!...3rd 4th 5th and reverse are all fine and work correctly...

so i was thinking the shifter was the problem...so i totally disconnected the shifter to the cables...thinking about how the cbales work i pushed and pulled on the shifter cables as if i was putting in first...so the cables are in 1st gear...same thing happens goes into gear fine then pops out when i let off the clutch and so on with second gear...

i can think of a couple things...1st, 2nd gear are shot...clutch is shot...shifter cables are worn out...i need your guys help big time

Had the same problem with my 2.2 and it corrected itself. Dealer looked at the shift cables and found they were starting to fray but not to a point that warranted paying to have it replaced. Mine happened in 2nd and 4th though so I could be way off.

Cosmo shortshifter=Crap.

Now the main thing is that more than likely didnt cut out enough of the plastic I had that issue on my 07 if you dont cut out enough of the plastic out of the bottom of the shifter plate and as far as I'm aware the ls and the 2.4 ss use the same shifter.

See its def not correcting itself...i drove it last night and i could drive it but this morning it is def not working correctly at all

yea i thought it was the shifter...but i completly took out the shifter and just positioned the cables into first and it does the same thing...so i completly by bypassed the shifter so it cant be that...and i took enough plastic off trust me haha...the shifter works fine and has been for a couple weeks so its def not that...

Is it still under warranty? If so, try starting the car, let it warm up and hammer the shifter up/down from 1st to 2nd and see if you feel like you're hitting a brick wall, or if it is engaged but feels "tight" and doesn't want to stay in gear?

I was having the same problem - just with second gear popping out though - dealer said it was a pressure plate issue and ended up replacing that, the clutch and flywheel for free (warranty). Haven't had an issue since and that was a year ago, hope this helps

i have had mine for over 2yrs, never had a problem with it, considering it cost me $35shipped inc the shift knob its easily the cheapest one in the market, and long lasting...def get your moneys worth, i didnt have to cut anything from my shift assembly, shifter was as easily to install as taking the old one out and putting the new one on

Who knows when I installed my TWM shifter I had to cut out a portion of the shifter box per the instructions. I dont by ebay parts just my personal preference.
