hey, its true that the handheld only has the flash tune on it, but it is still the live wire hand held, which can store 3 seperate performance tunes, plus the stock tune, it also displays engine functions in real time, horsepower, torque, 1/4mile, etc. but for the alpha kit the tuner only has one "turbo" tune and the stock tune on it, but the guys at SCT told me that even though its only one tune for now, whenever they come out with an update for these handhelds they are all free updates, my guess is that the SCT LIVEWIRE will be the first official tuning for the 2.2l's, and when those tuners come out, then i will get my update, and find someone to do a custome tune for more fuel and boost.

thats almost somethin to look forward to. i mean if you got ur internals built and want to up the boost, for now it almost seems useless for what u did to internals but once they allow for upping psi that kit will rock and possibly keep up or maybe beat some stage 3 scs lol (hope for the future)

you can up the boost. You just have to get a piggyback to adjust the tune. Just instead of the piggyback adjusting your stock tune it would be adjusting the flash tune. It just kinda sucks that you have to go that route and spend the money on extra tuning. Most turbo kits I've seen in the past come with adjustable tuning.

yea, but if id get the money, i would want to be able to do what i wanted with what was provided. i mean i kno you understand what im saying, it just sucks that with the tuning kit they offer that they only allow one tune without having to go secondary tuning for upping boost

ok, my friend in literally hours away from buying pistons. he wants to know if this kit will work with only the stock 10.1 or is it capable of 8.9? Does anyone know for a fact yet?

ok thanks, i guess he is going to have to stay with the 10.0:1 i think he said he talked to hahns sells ppl n they said it should work and allow for more boost. when he told me that i said "yea, that shows that they probably have no clue cuz the tune is only a preset for kit with only running the boost that the w/g allows"

And see that's what really sucks. People have been trying to get SCT to tell us whether we can edit the tune files or not. It sucks that there still has been no response, and to think, they'd probably sell A LOT more kits if they could just come out and tell us what the capabilities of the kit are.

if i was alex or any other member who got this kit i would tell garrett i would pay them for whatever it costs for the tune... but that is just me and if i had that kind of money, which most of us dont but i would tell them set it up for like 8.9cr pistons and like 16psi and ill pay them whatever they charge lol. i think that would be an easy 325whp balt.... any suggestions of ways to get them to do something like that other than just tell them you are willing to pay the price?

it will cost you #3500 plus $100 for shipping and the install is rather simple with fully detailed instructions. if you know how to follow directions and know parts on a car then im sure you can figure it out and if not your dad is gaurenteed to have enough car knowledge to do it if he ever even changed the oil spark plugs or put any performance parts on the car period. a bolt on turbo is simply a bolt on just with a whole lot of **** to bolt on and ive done a few friends cars without even knowing anything when i was ur age and now i could probably install a turbo kit in a matter of a friday nite (maybe 6 hours) i did from manifold to muffler, intake to turbo to fmic to throttle body on my friends talon, installed a apexi neo afc and hks turbo timer along with a maf translator and hks evc IV in a matter of 10 hours... that included welding the exhaust (it was prebent) and the intercooler charge pipes. i mean i dont have a clue what it take to rip apart an engine but i have the gm handbook which helps me know of all the bolts and proper way to do it but my other friends can do that so i learn while i watch, but when it comes to bolt ons or wiring (done properly) i can do it faster than any of my friends

I wouldn't be suprised if they tried to charge almost the same amount as the kit itself to build this upgraded tune for each of you.

you're probably underestimating the amount of money it would cost for them to come up with a GOOD custom canned tune for you. They would have to find a car with identical mods to what you want, and then they would have go through the hours of recalibrating everything. This is ONE tune designed to work in all different altitudes, temps, etc. There's alot of time and research that goes into making them.

ok, well let me just try to estimate it. say 16-18psi tune. using 8.9 compression pistons, full exhaust, at that you would need new intake manifold (right?) clutch (flywheel since ur takin the tranny apart neway) connecting rods, mite as well get new cams and gears, valves and springs (if you got all that much money) then you could most likely put down 350+whp (just an extimate, any other thots of how much power that would be?) so going from 200whp/220wtq up to 350whp/320wtq in my opinion is worth... $2000. That is what i would pay if they would get me a tune for atleast those numbers right there if i had this kit. My friend spent $1500 just on the dyno and tuning. what i tuned his maf and apexi neo without knowing anything about the air or fuel flows i got it to within 7% of the hp that slowboy racing did and that was just going by what the wideband was telling me to run the car at. so if he could spend $1500 for one day of dyno i would spend $2000, maybe $2500 for a few days, maybe week for tuning for this kit. but i guess it would just be easier if they made it an open tune and sold the sct livewire to everyone and allowed ppl who have it to d/l the preset tunes they have already available.
how much you think it would cost if they made it an open tune like, hp tuners can tune, for the 2.0/2.4 balts?

would it be best for them to find a way for an open tune that you could take your car to a dyno and have a specialist tune it? id pay for that too. and if i had 3500 more id spend it to get a high boost tune, cuz there is nothing else i have left to do to my car, its just pills hold me back lol

I'm sure if you brought your car to them then they could just go with the average tuning charges, but what you're talking about doing means they have to get a replica of your car. They can't just guess what everything would be. They would have to get a cobalt and build it up... which would cost alot of $$$.
Also I'm sure they would be glad to make a preset tune like that, but how many people do you know who would actually go for that exact same setup? There's probably less than a handful of 2.2 people right now with built engines(not talking about cavaliers and such).
Really the best bet is to push for an open tuner. Where we can just buy the software and flash changes in ourselves. Personally I'd still like to see a standalone system... but I don't look a gift horse in the mouth either.

well i dont got my license til december so now woulda been a great time for me to hand it over to them lol. haha yea i kno what you mean with the last statement. i would like an open tuner n that would be best and easiest for everyone but ive heard quite a few ppl saying that you could also hook up a piggyback or two if you wanted to up the boost on that system
