Pacesetter Catback Exhaust
I was wondering if the Pacesetter Monza Catback exhaust is any good ? I noticed that it is a lot cheaper than any other catback. What is the sound like ? Is it deep ? Does it have a nice tone ? Can anyone that currently has one give me any advise on this ?

Pacesetters quality is garbage. The sound is also raspy. They don't even use stainless steel. They paint the exhaust black to help prevent rust. That paint is gone in a week. Go Corsa or Magnaflow, or even GM.

I had a pacesetter on a other car, did not like the quality. I do however have the Gmmp performance catback (made by borla) and it sounds great.

i have the pacesetter catback, the fitment is excellent. the reason its so much cheaper is because its not made of stainless. what you really need to do is ask yourself how long do you really plan on having this car. if youre gonna trade up when youre no longer upside down in payments then get the pacesetter because the rust issue wont be a problem yet. if youre gonna pay the car off and drive it till its falling apart you might as well get a stainless exaust.

I think I might just get GM Performance Catback. Has anyone heard anything about the GM performance catback ? I have been hearing good and bad about the Pacesetter but with my luck anything that can go bad usually does so I probably won't mess with it.

or since there are very few bends on the cobalt, (the exhuast runs down the center of the vehicle and doesnt bend until around the rear axle like the cat backs also do) you could find a good muffler shop and for like $200 to $250 have a flow through muffler welded on, the spot were the pipe downsizes expanded, and if you prefer, and have the resonator removed if you wanted.
thats how i did my 05 not even a week after the car rolled off the lot. i chose a magnaflow flow through muffler that is usually used in a set to dual the new mustangs. expanded the pipe but left the resanator in place. sounds great. not ricey, but at around 3000, becomes nice and deep with out being annoying.
as long as you get rid of the old muffler, your on the right track. that thing is like the size of an icechest

2.2L has no 2.5" exhaust pipe
The 2.2L doesn't have 2.5" pipe that necks down to 2.25" just before the axle. That's only on the SS's. I am going to purchase an SS factory catback and then cut out the 2.25" section and muffler; install 2.5" pipe, Flowmaster Super 40 and the SS tip. Cost should be $175 to $200. I'm buying the stock catback from a fellow ss.net member.

after really lookin at the exhaust, i may just replace the smaller sections, the catconverter, and the muffler... i just cant justify paying $500+ for all new piping

im going with the pacesetter. due to the fact that its cheap and flat black that goes with my sleeper look. Ive heard some before their not that bad. I was wondering if i should take the stock resinator out. What kind of sound diffrence does it make? does it turn it ricy cause i don't want that. (not to hijack the thread)

Pacesetter doesnt sell them being coated. You could have a local company to you do it, if you could find one. However it would be very spending i bet. If you live in the southern states you wont have any issues, and if you live in the northern states just keep the under body clean and it wont rust.

I think one the cheapest and easiet ways to upgrade the 2.2L's to 2.5" exhaust (cat-back section) is to hit up the fellow members. You can use the SS factory cat-back that is 2.5" and cut out the 2.25" section along with the muffler; then just have some 2.5" pipe and a muffler of your choice installed. After that you can move forward and have a 2.5" downpipe installed and then move up to the manifold and replace it with a header.

I have the pacesetter exhaust and I figure if I pay $200 for it now and it rusts out in 3 or 4 years I'll just buy another one and I still will have payed less than if I bought a stainless steel one for $500. And the exhaust sounds very good.
