My steering clunks sometimes when I turn as well.

I believe there's a TSB on it; problem tho is that I have an '05 and the 3 year/36,000 mile warranty is up.

I'm almost at 50k. No mechanical problems, except warped rotors, but that's a given with these cars.

I only have 37,000 miles on my 05 cobalt but....I have had

1986 escourt 450,000 miles- drove to the junkyard (5 speed)
1991 escourt 280,000 miles- boy hit me and totaled it (5 speed)
1996 escourt 110,000 miles- some dude yet again ran into the car totalling it (5 speed)
1979 sunbird- 250,000 miles ++++ dunno how many times it flipped ( I still have it, its my baby)
(5 speed)
*all had original eng and trans cept for sunbird I put engine in 1 month ago.

So in my expierence if you take care of a car there is no reason you cant get at least 300,000 out of it.
