and my next question is how much would it cost for a LSJ swap? i mean is it just as hard as the turbo? or can i just build my ecotec up to a LSJ with the staged kits by GM. ?? thanks for the help

well...it wouldn't really be "as hard" because the lsj is already set up for a fwd drivetrain, but you need to realize how much is really involved in a motor swap. first of all your tranny might not bolt up (not sure about the bell housing) so you will probably need a new tranny. you need the new motor, mounts, may need some fabbing done for it to mount properly, you need the ecu, the wiring, axles to handle the power, suspension to handle the weight change...and those are just the main things that need to be done. all together you are looking at well over 10 grand IF you do the install yourself. if you are not planning on doing all this yourself it will probably end up coming out to a price around a brand new ss/sc. If you are extremely knowledgable about cars, which doesn't seem to be the case because you are asking these questions (no offense) it can be done for much cheaper, but really it is not worth the time and money. you are better off buying the whole new car or building up your current motor.

all of the stuff i talked about above are just general swapping necessities, you may be able to use your current tranny, axles and such. i do not know the limits of your current drivetrain, but it is very unlikely that you will be able to run the stock axles and such. if you have any specific questions on anything like this in the future or you do decide to build your motor, drop me a pm.

i'm tired of these turbo cobalt threads, my head hurts whenever I see one or several on new posts.....there will never be true tuning for this platform. too many people fail to realize this. I don't care if HP tuners is willing to look. If they had this figured out it would be out by now. Plain and simple this platform will be ignored (The 2.2 E16). Just move on and save your pennis and nickles for something else.

Hell they are working on tuning on the 2.2 for the 07 (nice having 2 bar map and not 1).. Nothing for the 05/06. That's because E16 = the sux0r.

Nothing against 2.2 owners since I own a 2.2 Sedan and a 05 2.0 SS/SC but it's just not going to happen..

I agree, and the priority of the E16 to HP Tuners is WAY WAY on the back burner IMO...

Hey I just said that this is a possibility of a turbo. I wish it could be true, but I'm probably staying N/A. I was just passing info along. I know you weren't attacking me. I just wanted to throw this find out.

ya im just a noob when it comes to engine modifications and stuff. ive bought my cobalt ls and its cause thats all i could afford. i figure if a turbo comes out (which is aparently not gonna happen) if its 3 grand, i could pull that off. but going from a 12000 dollar car to a 22000 dollar car is too much. ya know? but ya no offence taken man. im just throwing ideas out there and seeing what people think.

thanks for the input guys

Please read the Turbo FAQ me and Halfcent compiled! It already tells you not to purchase from Maximum Boost. It has no R & D into your vehicle. It will not work properly...it won't even fit.

I figured I'd bump this since they got 2 different cobalts over at Alpine and they are almost complete. All the info is over there. You can click on the link in the 1st post or click here: www.***************

umm the garrett turbo kit will be using a sct flash device which is similar to hp tunners but it allows you multiple profiles and a cool guy lcd screen with performance info. so there will be tunning!

if you go to the pontiac web page. build a solstice and click on the GXP options. you will see that they have the 2.0L ecotec w/ a turbo getting 260 bhp rear wheel drive. now that is going to be a nice lil srt killer.

in a totally different class...are you thinking bhp means at the wheels? bhp just means brake horsepower and not the brakes on your car, a dyno is also known as a "brake" and it is measured at the crank, so 260bhp means 260hp not 260whp.

You also have to remember that the Cobalt SS/SCs are rated at 205bhp and they are putting more than that to the ground.

ok...that means nothing...that doesn't prove that gm underrated the solstice gxp motor. gm underrated the ss/sc, but until i see a dyno of 260whp from a gxp i will beleive what it is actually rated at...260bhp.
