Question about our Catylitic Converters
Why is it that some of the cobalts I see roll through my work only have one cat, but then mine had 2 from the factory?

It might be, the ones Ive been seeing at work only have one on the down pipe, but mine has one on the down pipe and then another one right before it bolts up to the resonator.

Well mines an 08 as well and no theres no sai, there was another 08 almost identical to mine that came into my work today that had 2 cats, and these arent cali spec cars, mine was originally sold to a dealer in illinois and then dealer traded into Missouri. Ive heard people mention about the first one being a pre cat and the second one being a full on cat.

Mine isnt an XFE, managed to get a L61 prior to them switching over to the new design, so if mine is a Cali spec car, would both cats be full on cats, or pre/post cats. Any ideas??? Im just trying to get this figured out due to the fact that when I did my exhaust, I removed the second one which is right before resonator and Im due for inspections in February, so Im trying to get an idea if this could be an issue or not.

"The Recent Cobalt XFE
The vehicle provides another option for consumers who are searching for small yet affordable fuel-efficient cars. The Cobalt XFE is only slightly more interesting than hybrid SUVs, but it does offer more fuel efficiency at a lower price tag. Chevrolet tweaked the engine, changed the roller resistance tires and made some gear adjustments to make this happen. It’s also equipped with a Driver Information Center which provides the owner information on how he can save on fuel.
Basically, it’s the same Cobalt with a few minor changes, better mileage, better fuel economy, and thus greater gas savings."

XFE is still L61.
