Question for anyone with fujita CIA
i have a fujita cia that i put on this afternoon but its throwing a check engine light. i cannot figure out why it is doing that there are no leaks the sai is properly in the tubing and everything. im going to work tomorrow and am going to run the code. the only thing i can think of is that i bought the car with 45,000 mi and maybe the fuel filter has never been replaced and it cannot run enough fuel for the cai but i do not know. did anoyne else have this problem or have to do something special to fix it? thanx

It means your fuel system wasnt supplying enough fuel and youre AFR was high(above 15ish, stoich is 14.68 but it wont throw lean till it is over 15 at part throttle). Youre computer normally can adapt short term fuel trim no problem but it hates drastic change from long term. Basically you needed to reset it to learn new AFR corrections to fuel trim.

i was wondering to could a resticted fuel filter cause this? like if with the cai sucking in more air a dirtyt fuel filter be resticting it from getting the proper amount of fuel? or could it be cause by a cheap o2 sensor because i replaced the o2 sensor but got one from autozone. its was just a cheap one to get the job done. and i had no prob with the stock box.
and if i was to get a hp tune what would be the best way of going about that and would i lose mpg?

What you need to do is unplug your battery for 20-30 minutes, plug it back in, let it idle for another 20 or 30 minutes and slowly work your way up the RPM ranges on the drives you take for the next week or so.
Here's what your computer is doing....Startup...vrooom......whoa more air...no way...doesn't go with my fuel tables at this RPM and throttle % man...gotta be a problem....oh well, i'll go with what I have in my memory and throw a code so I can get looked at later man...and then it slowly adjusts its fuel tables over the time you have the car....
reset the battery and then you can let her rip...but you gotta teach it to walk before it'll run without CEL....

Ok heres whats happeneing, I don't know if you reset your battery or not after you installed the CAI, but this is actually what your computer is doing - your computer has a basic fuel table, and then it has fine tuned fuel table that you've created due to your driving habits and so on. Since I didn't see anywhere you unplugged ur battery, it means its still running off of the fine tune fuel tables it has built up with the older airbox you had, meaning less air.
What you need to do is unplug your battery for 20-30 minutes, plug it back in, let it idle for another 20 or 30 minutes and slowly work your way up the RPM ranges on the drives you take for the next week or so.

ok so been aa litle while since i have been able to get one here and its still throwing a code. i reset the ecu a number of times. im actually in the process of getting my pa state emmissions license and got the drive cycle for the cobalt. pretty much its fine till i get on the high way and it the second to last step in the cycle and its when cruising over 60mph. but i drove around for a couplke days in town no prob but ass oon as i got on the highway i was on it for maybe 2 min and it threw the light. so at this point i reset the ecu once more if the code dont go im selling the intake.. so i apprciate everyones help and if there are any other idea sid me happy to hear them, but again thank you everyone for your help so far.

hate to say it but you probably would have been better off just having bought a injen or K&N.
and the last time i checked the fujita is still almost as expensive.
