quick question about flex pipe/header

Hello all,

I had my flex pipe repaired about 3-4 months ago and it seems to be leaking again. I have a few options but i dont know what the best way to go is budget/long term quality is.

I can either get a whole new stock downpipe put in.
Get a aftermarket Highflow Catted or Catless downpipe put in.
or Get a Header and Downpipe installed.

And another question is. I had my resonater taken out last year so a aftermarket downpipe isnt bolt on for me. But would anyone recommend installing the header myself Ive read a few how tos and seems like just 10-12 bolts holds in it. any comments will help.

Thanks ahead of time.

thanks for all your help 707. One more quick question. I feel really comfortable installing my own header just want to make sure im ordering the right one. Im looking at pacesetter PAC70-1272 thats the sku for it its the black coated 4-1 for the 2.2L that should bolt right up to my flex pipe? if so im in buisness for $156 and then gotta get my flex pipe replaced or get this downpipe with the high flow magnaflow cat.

thanks again for all your help.

when you had the flex pipe fixed, did you keep it in the stock location?

yea my flex pipe is in the stock spot just a different one welded in. Ive seen some photos of the header and it seems it comes with a different bolt on or weld on connector.

heres the link i found:
05+ Chevrolet Cobalt 2.2 L61 Pacesetter Header 70-1272 on eBay!

let me know what you think or should i just get the high flow magnaflow cat and downpipe with the flew pipe already on it. Im sure I can install the header as long as it bolts to the stock down pipe 3 bolts. But id have to have the downpipe installed cuz the exhaust shop took my old resonator out and thats why the downpipes not bolted on its welded on.

thank you so much for your help.

If your downpipe is wielded in the you might as well get the pacesetter, cause it's gonna have to be wielded in place, or you can just get a new flexpipe wielded in again...

Look into the vibrant header/downpipe kit, very popular, and great quality.

thanks for all your input.

Ive been looking at the header downpipe combo from racing solutions its a 4-1 long tube style with high flow downpipe catless or with a cat. its $470 and ive been told the header matches up to my 2.2L just right which means i can bolt it in myself (saves money) and then get the downpipe with it welded in. Or I could spend $175ish on the pacesetter header, and then order then downpipe with the magnaflow high flow cat for $200ish.

My main purpose is to replace the flex pipe instead of getting it repaired again. id rather pay $200 for a whole new downpipe then $100-$150 to get it rewelded.

So If anybody knows a good reliable place to order a new downpipe or header, or a header/downpipe combo for around $300-$500 please let me know.

And again thanks for all your help.

One more quick thing just found this downpipe lookes perfect for what i need. My current plan is to confirm this fits in place and get it ordered, then if all goes as planned order the 4-1 pacesetter header from turbotech for $156(Cheapest ive seen so far, Thanks guys) and install that myself.

04-10 CHEVY COBALT/SATURN ION/PONTIAC G5 - 3 BOLT DOWNPIPE W/ HF CAT - 2.5 INCH

thanks again all.
