Rebuilt engine break in suggestions

i recently rebuilt my 2.2l ecotec with wiseco low compression pistons (8.9-1), forged eagle rods, ARP head studs, Cometic head gasket, and brand new set of rod bearings. the idea behind the rebuilt is so the engine can handle 400hp without failing. i just start up car up two days ago and it ran perfectly and so far no problems at all. i was wondering if any of you guys out there can give me some good suggestions for the break in period. i have talked to many machanics about the break in and so far all of them have different ideas. thanks

change oil at about 500 miles.....then again at 1,000......when driving try not to put all the miles on highway, vary the rpm's and such....in other words, don't go on the highway and set cruise control at 65 and put on 500 miles.

use regular oil, no synthetic.
also, did you install new piston rings or reuse the old ones? if you installed new rings, observe the above suggestion of avoiding a constant engine speed.
finally, until the new bearings are broken in, go easy on the throttle and avoid high engine speeds.

like everybody said...vary your engine rpm and avoid redline for at least 1k then gradually go into that...change/check oil often and make sure everything stays smooth...you don't want to immediately take that car and race everything on the road....use the same principles outlined in the owners manual as well....and it should go from there.....good luck with it....sounds like a super build...

Give the rings and gaskets time to seat properly. Make sure you try to stay off boost as well if thats what you got going. Many builds require a HARD break in but weisco suggests a soft break in for their products. Go easy on here and let the car warm up before each time you drive it for at least the first 3,000km. You want to avoid any head warp.

On my 3000GT I changed the oil at 350, 750, and 1500 miles. Also as stated above, make sure you vary RPMs. I have heard alot of people say that after a rebuild, the breakin period is the most important part of the rebuild because if done incorrectly can cause alot of **** down the road as Im sure you're aware. When traveling on the highway for a while, switch it up in gears. slow down a little, shift to 4th, speed up, go to fifth just to keep it varied. I would also everyonce and a while wind out 1st to around 4-5k (not fast, just to run it at higher rpms).

If wiseco says to be soft for the 1st thousand miles or so then follow their instructions, but on my 3000 I goosed it fairly often after the first 300 miles making sure it was quickly decellerated to put some load on it, although not for an extended time. If something was wrong and going to break, it would be better then while im ready for it and in the rebuild mood than later, plus it is good to
