We're not talking about refilling the windshield washer fluid here. A good mechanic could probably do this job 1,000 times and never have a fire, but a smart mechanic will never give it the chance of happening,
Don't say something like. " Cars are designed not to have fires like this." or whatever. If it's made by people, it can screw up, no matter how many safety features are installed.
Just ask any of the previous residents at Three Mile Island.
I don't mean to offend anyone, but it seems like you are giving out some bad info. I can tell from your post that, you're not a mechanic (btw, technician is the preferred vernacular) and you don't have much experience working on fuel injection systems. I could see disconnecting the battery to change a starter or alternator, or other components that have power with the key off, but when changing out fuel injectors it just doesn't make any sense. The only way the connectors on the injectors could cause a spark is if you pulled them off with the engine running. Even then, since the pins are recessed into a well-insulated connector, the spark would be gone before the fuel vapors could enter, but that's with the engine running and power to the injectors. As soon as you turn the key off, there is no power to the injectors, meaning there is no chance of any trouble. I'm not saying there's a slim chance, i'm saying the probability is zero. Also, you mention resetting the computer by disconnecting the battery. I find it very hard to believe that disconnecting the battery would reset the ECM on a new car. On some OBD I cars, yes. But on any late model car, that's just silly.

Yeah being a GM tech i've done quite a few of them so far. The part number under the campaign number is for a complete set of injectors. And yes it is very simple to do, the fuel rail is easily accessible and removeable. BTW Haynes manuals also tell you to disconnect the battery when installing wiper blades

You got played. I stood over and watched the tech do mine...we even bullshitted about my cold air intake and forced induction.
