RIPP Mods SDS or TC System for Chevy Cobalt 2.2L

I've contacted RIPP Mods and they've informed me that they would definitely be interested in developing an supercharger system for our 2.2L Cobalts.

They wanted me to put out a feeler to see who would support it and perhaps see if I can locate somone willing to donate their car for fabrication and protyping.

These guys do amazing work and I can almost guarantee that they can solve the ECU issue we've been having).

If there is interest they will definetly get something rolling. I was one of the first to get them rolling on making an SDS for the 2003+ Hyundai Tiburon and when there was enough interest, Ross (the CEO) even went out and bought a new Tiburon and started fabrication. These guys are serious if we are but they want to know if their product will be bought.

I think if you guys want affordable forced induction options for the 2.2L then we should look into this. If there is competition amongst companies to gain our support then that will mean affordable options for us.

If there is someone in their area willing to donate their car that will be even better. In fact, they would want you to e-mail them to get things started.

And if SDS is not your cup of tea, perhaps they can develop a turbocharged system for us. Take a look at the work they did with their SRT-4 and the plans for their Skyline.

Respond here and let me know what you think. The more support the better. And if there is a lot, trust me, you won't have to wait too long for a kit like we are from Hahn. These guys do quick and reliable work

Check'em out if you're unfamiliar with their work.

I'd definately be interested in a supercharger for the 2.2L I just hope it won't be outrageously priced since they don't have any competition.

Where is this company located at?

for those who are biased based on BOV/Bypass Valve sound, this style supercharger would have one included.

looks like a solid setup, I bet quite a few people would be interested in either this or the turbo system.

Ok, I've been trying to get in touch with them but either my e-mail of theirs is screwy right now.

I have their number but work schedule only allows me to call them on weekends so I can try that later. That's why I prefer e-mail.

I've tried using one of my other accounts so hopefully they get that e-mail.

I need more responses. This company is willing to help and I've only gotten 12 replies? C'mon now....

Maybe I should make a poll that you can choose either TC or SC. OR just reply here; it's all good. LEt me know what you think and any input you have post it here. I'll be directing them to this site

By the way, they're located in Staten Island, New York.
Any people there that would be willing to donate their car for prototyping?

How long would they need the car for and would you then get a free supercharger because you let them use your car?

Ok, they managed to get back to me. Their server was full and they had to clean it out.
Anyway, I'll just copy and paste what they told me in their e-mail since it pretty much says it all.

"We would need a manual and an auto to proto type on, and they would probably
need somewhere in the range of 3200-3500 for the prototype kit once it's
finished, but install and tuning will be free, which would normally run
about 1500 bux, or maybe even a little more.
We would need each car for
about 4-6 weeks depending on whether or not the autos differ that much from
the manuals in terms of fitment, and, Ross would extend this price to the
first 5 guys that had funds ready to go. We typically forecast about 100whp
over stock on each application. Some make more.
"

Ok, so there you guys go. I hope some of you guys would be serious enough to make this happen. This is the front of their busy season, so we need to consider that as well.
If there is anyone willing to donate their car post here and I'll give you Tom's phone number (the guy from RIPP Mods whom I've been e-mailing)

I know not everyone has the cash to put up initially so this goes without saying that serious first time buyers would be needed. Gotta put our money where our mouths are, ya know? I'll have the cash around mid August, which by then the prototyping should be done anyways. Too bad I'm in TX or else I'd donate my car myself

Let me know what you guys think

oh, btw, the Tibs acctually made a load of power with the SDS. Check our some of the RIPP cars so you can see some of the gains they made on stock engines. Like Tom said, "some make more" (than 100whp over stock).

Oh, couple more things:
If anyone else happens to be a member of other Cobalt sites, make a thread and link them here or just tell them about it and copy my posts there. The more support the better

As for the price of R&D for the SDS or TC system, I forgot something. Perhaps I can get them to do the way we did the Tiburon SDS development.

We had a list of definate buyers lined up and locked in ready to go. They signed a contract with RIPP stating that they would be guaranteed the first production kits in the USA and even had a clause for discounted upgrades I beleive. Also, each kit was engraved with a number to signify they had the first 10 production kits.

They each kicked in $1000 each and that money was used for the R&D of the system. Once it was completed, the donor car got free instalation and free tuning. When the kits were finnaly ready to go, we all just kicked in the rest of what we owed (price of SDS minus $1000) and the kit was ours.

I figure this would be a good alternative as opposed to having just one or two people come up with the full $3200 - $3500 by themselves at one time. Coming up with $1000 now wouldn't be too difficult if you're a serious buyer and then during the time it takes to develop the kit we all would just save up the rest that would be owed.
I'm almost positive they will go for it. Again, if the demand for a TC is greater then the SC, maybe they'll go that way. It all depends what we want and then what they can come up with once they take a good look at the engine bay.

Post your ideas and thoughts
