RIPP Mods: Supercharger or Turbocharger?
Basically, this is to find out which you would prefer RIPP Mods to possibly build.
If you've read my other thread, RIPP Mods is interested in possibly building an FI application for the 2.2L. Rather then get all confused with who wants what in various posts, let's let the numbers speak and show RIPP what we would buy

I'm not criticizing, I'm just trying to learn.

in my opnion turbochargers are over rated and over used. Superchargers couldbuild massive power if done correctly, and with new mods coming out every, turbochargers wont be tlaking smack much longer

I never owned a turbo car and i hear they are supposed to have a better power curve than a centrifugal supercharger but my bro has an LT1 camaro with a catback and only 7 pounds of boost coming from a procharger and that thing pulls like all hell, will break the tires loose anytime you floor it below 60 and from a 40 roll can put down at least 200 feet of rubber. Also power seems to come on right around 3500 rpm and just gets stronger till the redline. So turbo's may be better but cf super is damn good as well.

Only reason I say turbo is cause horsepower means nothing without torque. Torque is twisting force, which creates motion or plain and simple, brute force. Yes a SC can build torque well but it uses the engine itself to turn it thus robbing power. A turbo on the other hand uses exhaust gas which means no loss of power to work and they will build power as soon as the throttle is applied which results in peak torque at lower rpm. A sc has to rev up which is why the SS comes to life at 4000 rpm rather than 2000 rpm.

I vote turbo just because i've seen what an srt-4 can do and if done correctly, i can see the cobalt right up there with it! i'll admit that i don't know a whole hell of a lot about FI right now, but i'm learning quickly. I just started a new job and a guy up there has a Subaru WRX (not an STI) that he upgraded the turbo on and everything, and he's pushing 305 hp. He's helping me learn a lot about this stuff cuz the last thing i wanna do is **** up my car because i don't know what i'm doing with FI! he even said that once i get everything that i need for a turbo or whatever, he would help me install everything at no charge! so while i may not know a whole lot now, i'm learning which has to be worth something!

To me a sc will limit the power output that "could" be had by this motor. To build a more sufficient kit that could appeal to all I would say build a turbo kit, with a smaller turbo, limit boost, and then have upgrades for the kit for the people that need more for different interests. Everyone wants to be faster, but some need more than others.
