SAI Intake Idea
I had a thought, wondering if anyone can answer this question... i have the sai, and i don't want to get a cai and have things hanging with no where to go... i guess i could get a little breather filter, but i was thinking something different... i already took out the intake resonator, which is super restrictive... i have a K&N filter in their too... the only other part i could see being restrictive is the actual refridgerator ( ) that sits on the throttle body... would there be any benefit to getting an elbow and one piece of pipe to connect the throttle body to the stock flex pipe that connect to the airbox? it's too damn cold to take that monstrosity off to see how restrictive it is... but the way i figure, with the resonator gone, and with this piece gone, that pretty much eliminates the restriction, and my extra connectors for the cai still have a home... thoughts?

its not really restrictive, it just doesn't direct the air. it goes from being all formed up in the tube then all jumbled up inside it. its all open inside there. my suggestion take it off! anything stock sucks ass!
let me show you with my UBER MsPaint skills. (im sooo a 9th level box maker...BIATCH!!!)

LOL that drawing made me chuckle. But anyway yeah man go ahead and replace it. You will get better/ smoother airflow into the throttle body, but not enough to make a noticable difference.

haha you are my hero for that drawing.
Man i agree with them, if you can direct the air straight into the throttle body it would be much better than with all the turbulence that the black box causes so i say if you have the stuff to get rid of it by all means do.

Funny cause I did that as an experiment already. I would say it added a little acceleration and it was **** load louder. I never got any CELs or anything. I'll try and get a picture of it later.

thats actualy like a stock air box but in reverse.
The stock air box is basicly a cheap "cold air intake".
it really wouldnt be worth it for the open box, because the current CAI's push the upper limits of the throttle body as it is.
But if im wrong (which i might be), i hope it works out if you decide to try it.

That's a very cool set up, I just might do that. How much did the piping cost you at autozone? I mean for the 06 cars the big issue if the SAI, so my doing this you leave the SAI alone and just clean up the intake near the TB. It's probably similar performance wise to a CAI/SAI performance wise. Many long time "car guys" have looked under my hood and told me the problem with the stock intake isn't the filter of the resonator, its really that crappy connectiong between the MAF and the TB.

Here are the exact items I bought:
4" straight tube (bought 2, cut one down) - http://www.amazon.com/Spectre-8708-I...8&s=automotive
90 Degree Elbow (1) - http://www.amazon.com/Spectre-8698-I...8&s=automotive
60 Degree Elbow (not 45 like I said in last post) (1) - http://www.amazon.com/Spectre-8668-I...8&s=automotive
3" Couplers (2) (connect to TB and to air box) - http://www.amazon.com/Spectre-8771-C...8&s=automotive
Crankcase Breather (1) - http://www.amazon.com/Spectre-3996-B...8&s=automotive

i got the piping today at the good ole' pepboys... i wasn't happy about the cheap ass pieces i had to get, but being that they will NEVER make provisions for the SAI on any intakes since it was only on some of the cars for about half a yea, (no market) it was either this or nothing, for now at least.
i got better couplers than what came with it. the only thing i had to do besides get the couplers (the ones that came with the pipe suck and probably wouldn't work very well) was cut one of the pipes down a little bit. it seems like it will work ok, and with the resonator out, the K&N filter, and this piping, i think it's going to be exactly the same as a CAI, but will work with the SAI. the only part left that's stock is the actual box that the filter sits in, the one that has the pipes for the SAI. i'm expecting just a few hp out of this, probably won't even feel the difference... but we'll see... it's raining like a **** here in north jersey, and i was outside with my brother in the rain with 2 umbrellas taking measurements, test fitting, etc.

Just cuz you have SAI doesn't mean you can't have a good intake.
The K&N Typhoon short ram intake has a provision for those of you with the secondary air injection.. and for thoe that don't you jsut plug the hole!!

^^ agreed... but i already did the airbox mod, with the K&N filter, so i didn't want to go the full intake route... and 270 dollars for MAYBE an extra 1 or 2 horsepower is rediculous in my opinion. i'm guessing that with my new setup it will be pretty much the same gains as putting on a CAI.
so it's on now, took about 10 minutes to get it on... no cel so far, went for a nice test drive... as of now i can't tell if it did anything... it was wet out, and there was a little bit of traffic so i didn't really get on it much... i have a place by me where i do 0-60 runs, that's kinda how i test what the mods do... so far stock was about 8.6 seconds (2.2 auto) and last i tested was about 7.5. still not "fast" but a second and a 1/10th off 0-60 is good for what the car is, and if i wanted a race car i wouldn't have gotten the 2.2 . on a nice day late at night i'll see if there's any difference at all. it didn't get any louder at all, but it did sound slightly deeper, which is good. it did seem to rev a little quicker.
