UPDATE:
went for a drive this morning, car feels good so far. it actually sounds QUIETER and sounds a little smoother... i noticed that my rpm's are stayin a little bit lower, about 1750 or so instead of 2,000 in around-town driving... i had to retighten the coupler that holds the pipe to the throttle body, it came pretty loose... tightened it up and it's not moving... that's it for now. if you can't tell i'm pretty bored

here is a pic of what i did, instaed of hacking the airbox i took a 4" pipe from pepboys and cut a MAF hole into it then put it into the hole screwed in the MAF and there you go.
although it made my car slower so i took it off. don't know how those of you with the air box mod perform afterward but this made my car loud and slow.
also i think the stock air box is very productive compared to any little mods done to it, unless your going to get a real CAI i would just save your money cause your not going to see any gains. IMO
also which part is the "resonator"?

the way i look at it is i got the resonator out, i have a K&N filter, and the highly restrictive box that sits on the throttle body is gone... so, i used the stock parts that are not restrictive, and got rid of the restrictive parts. i'm not gonna get it dynod, so don't know for sure, but the basic formula is Less restrictive air flow = more power.
I spent about 40 total for this setup, and it took 10 minutes to put it on.

i got my setup done today and it is great.
I have the entire bottom of the stock airbox removed and a K&N drop in, it still dosent throw a code and looks pretty stock.
I have not dyno'd this new setup yet but the old setup which was a resonator delete and for the most part the entire botorm of the airbox removed and a k&n i free'd up 3hp and 3 tq which is great because it is a very cheap mod and it also makes the car sound better.

right were it connects to your throttle body there is a metal clamp that you need to loosen up with a screw driver. after that if it doesnt come off im stuped, lol.

also i think im going to buy an air filter and do this aswell, pepboys sells a 3in tube with a hole for MAF and just put a breather fiter on my EGR hose.

It is still not perfect, it rubs a bit at the 90degree bend and it is a tad to long so i have to cut a bit off of one of my pieces but after that is all done it will be great. The thing I love is at WOT it is almost painfully loud but if i am just tooling around town and being conservative it is quiet...oh and i also have the cobalt ss oem exhaust.

I was thinking of having my local exhaust shop bend me some pipe to fit. Shouldnt that work??? Then i could throw some high heat paint on it and call it a day.

i did however have to cut one of the pipes to make it fit properly.
