Secondary Air Injection on late production 2006 L61's

Well I think I found an independent shop in NJ that's willing to delete the SAI for me. While they do have a GM Tech 2 they're not entirely sure of how to get to the setting where they can adjust tire size/SAI rpo. Halfcent, or anyone else that has done the SAI delete, could you try to post specific instructions of how to find and switch the RPO codes within Tech 2.

A dealer adjusted for tiresize here for free while they were adjusting for air flow differences.
I asked about SAI and I bet I could convince them to delete it. They know my car isn't under warranty =)

Nice find anthony.... is it the shop you just PM's me with. Post it up in my 2.2 Reflash post. we can add them as someone who will do it
Vin, do the same with the dealer you were talking about. if they will do the tire adjustment I'll add that as well. My dealer wouldn't even do that.

As we posted above, here is how it works.
The tech2 reads the car into it's memory. Then, you take the tech2 to a GMDealerworld connected computer. GMDW communicates with the tech2 and identifies your car and it's program. Then, from that interface on the computer (not the tech2), you can make the changes. The changes are then uploaded into the tech2, which you then take back to the car and flash.

I'm pretty sure you'd still have to get it reflashed if you put a breather filter on it. Unhooking it from the exhaust is going to run the O2 levels lower than standard in the exhaust, which I'm guessing the O2 sensors are going to pick up on.
but then I haven't tried it so I don't know.

No. You are not unhooking anything from the exhaust. The system continues to work normally with the use of a second filter.
For people that just want to do an new intake, you wouldn't have to remove the system for the reason you discuss. That being one can just use another filter. But if any wants to do an aftermarket exhaust manifold, they would have to have the system removed.

But the way I see it it's not too much different than secondary air injection on older vehicles. You could swap a header and just weld the aic tube in a different point.

^^ see that's what I figured we were talking about. Putting on an aftermarket header would mean that you'd have to remove the aic, at which point you're going to throw a code. Only way to get around that is to find someone to flash the aic out. or rig it so that the O2 sensors read the same as it did with the aic installed.

I'm curious, what is your interest in this? Do you have SAI and you want to do some modifications?

I don't want you think I'm bashing you at all, but you have this system completely wrong. First, it has nothing to do the O2 sensors. The MIL will be a result of the system itself simply not being there anymore. Second, you can't just weld a tube onto a new header. It doesn't work that way. Please re-read the thread from the beginning, where you will learn that the air is injected into the manifold flange, which then routes the air into the cylinder head.

I will be attempting to install my custom CAI from my old Equinox onto my Cobalt, by putting a small breather filter on the end of the SAI tube (which normally connects into the airbox).
I'll report my findings. Planning on doing this some time late next week. Has anyone does this? Got any pictures of the setup?

I personally don't have it. I just like to learn about things. But why would it not work if you weld/relocate the sai tube on an aftermarket manifold? As long as the pressures remain constant then there shouldn't be any problem. I understand injecting the air directly into the exhaust instead of through the cyl head might have it's own pressure difference and it would also make the O2 sensor read a lean condition, but simply restricting some of the air into the exhaust manifold(smaller diameter hole) would raise the pressure in the sai system to spec and keep the oxygen in the exhaust to an acceptable level.
it may sound complicated... but it may be the easier way if you're like me and you have the tools for the job and don't feel like driving half way around the state looking for a dealer who'll do the reflash.

I am officially cured of SAI. Thanks to Mrgoodwrench78. Took a ride to him today and we plugged in, updated my car and changed my intake. worked like a charm!
Thank you Mrgoodwrench.... damn I sound like a commercial
