Short Ram Modification- Opinions

After installing my KN short ram Ive kinda noticed that it sits a little high in the engine bay. I was contemplating getting a PVC elbow or something of that nature to extend the filter so that it is angled downwards (And ideally sucking colder air).

I was wondering if anyone had tried this already, and what type of elbow would be sufficient (Will PVC melt?) etc.

EDIT* I know this is a crude drawing but this is what im talking about:

you should try using the elbows from a turbo setup.. i'd say that would work way better than pvc.

icic, well I kinda wanted to do this on the cheap. Would it make that much of a difference if I used PVC or another plastic elbow?

looks to be better positioning for the filter,I think rebelmotorsports is the only one to do this on an intake so far.

I just got back form the Truck shop with a new addition.

I've got the GMPP setup and removed the resonator thats under the headlight.

I'm attaching 3-1/2" Stainless Flex exhaust tubing to the bottom inlet of the air box. Then routing it under the headlight to the air inlet in the middle of the bumper.

Pics when completed

yeah, that sounds like the stuff.

Probably adding 5 pounds to the right front will hurt more than the colder air will help.

Any type of flex tubing will cause turbulance making the air flow worse. Whats colder air if the engine cant pull it in as well as it did before?

wouldn't it just be better to buy a CAI instead of trying to extend a short-ram? If you can find a way to get a short-ram down into your bumper and make it work like a CAI, somebody please tell me because I'm in the market for one.

The problem with buying a new CAI is that it will cost another 250$. I'm simply trying to angle my filter towards colder air. I didnt go with a CAI in the first place because i didn't want any hassle with water or snow, and the short ram is better for lower RPMs.

Blktrax i believe is trying to channel the cold air into the engine bay.

Don't use PVC bro. Go to this site. You can get any angle elbow you need.

Just realized that you were using the K&N typhoon. I was looking at those too, does K&N make a CAI for us? They don't show one.
I have to worry about the weather too, but I've never heard anything about RPM's making a difference. Can you explain? I'm kinda (really) noobish.

Well according to KN dynos the Short Ram produces its peak amount of power at lower RPMs. The CAI produces its peak power at higher RPMs. This has something to do with the length of the pipe and air temp.

I have noticed zero powers gains from the short ram, but i got it in the first place b/c i liked the sound. The sound has also been less than impressive and thats why ive considered angeling it. MPG has *risen* tho (Litres per 100kms has dropped for all you canucks)

anyone who says they can "feel" 5hp is bullshitting you...seriously, that's like taking out 10 lbs from the weight of your car.
One day put a 10lb brick in your backseat, you won't even kno it's there...

Sure 5hp is better then 0, might gain you .2 seconds less in the 0-60, most people can barely blink that fast tho man

Looks good man. Cool air is the way to go. I love the GMPP intake, it's a great setup.

I wish my intake was that accessible.

not bad, this is def feasible for 2 reasons:

1. you didn't detach the filter and put it down near the fender, you would have lost too much turbulence due to the piping, this works because u made like a path for the air to go up into the filter

2. you didn't detach the filter and put it down near the fender, lol, you would have had serious water inside the engine problems lmfao
