Spark Plug life?

what is the life expectancy for spark plugs, i mean, 24000 miles on most?

How easy is it to change the spark plugs? and where are the wires? Sorry, it's my first time looking into the Cobalt; newbie.

What car manual for taking stuff apart are out there as reading material? Any online to look at? Also, helpful Web sites, parts catelogs or more.

Tia

i'd say to search most of this stuff anf by all means get a Haynes manual for the car, you can find it at autozone, pepboys...ect.

b.t.w. stock plugs are good for 100k or so they say, unless you're modding.

what other replaceable parts are there? I noticed Autozone does not have wiresets but something else, like a boot and metal rod of some sort? I am thinking the thing on top of the motor with the finned aluminum piece is what would be taken off with the plugs under? anyone have a dyi on a simple 'change plugs?' parts to consider while changing the plugs along with the dyi? I looked through cobaltss.net's list of dyi subjects but found nothing to fit.

I am at around 78,500 miles on a 2005 LT and think it may be a wise investment, I mean there are only four cyclinders

well if you not looking to mod, you can go with autolites or somthing,
in my taurus i used to get copper autolites and synthetic oil and change them all out at 10k intervalls,
just gave me somthing to do, i know to early but hey it was only 6 bucks to change

For one, Haynes manuals suck. I own one, and it isn't very good. I picked an actual Official GM manual for the Cobalt.

As for the plugs, I would keep the stock ones unless you're turbo or some ****. All the people using these fancy-dancy plugs.. it's just nonsense, claiming they're getting more HP or better MPG, or whatever, go to hell; you're not noticing .5HP or .3MPG okay? Save the bullshit.

well, AZ has Chilton's but have to be ordered and is only $3 bucks more so I ordered one.

I am going to go with Bosch's Platinum +4, their Platinum Ir Fusion is the top of their line with the +4's being directly under. Plus, AC Delco OEM plugs are the same price as the +4's from Bosch, it wasn't to difficult of a choice to make the 'upgrade'.

I will be doing my front disc brakes, change the rotors and shoes. Any helpful tips, tricks?

How do you mean?
What horror stories?

The iridium plugs are the only thing being offered as the top of Bosch's current line of plugs.

In my Cavi with the 2.2 ECOTEC and my Cobalt SS with the 2.4 I changed them every 25,000 miles and YES you can see a noticable amount of were at that point and YES a new set of plugs made it feel better afterwards and again YES stick with the factory plugs as after trying several different brands I found they worked the best and yielded the best performance and gas mileage.

NOTE; My feelings and what I found to be true are purely subjective and may not be realized nor felt by others.

coil packs have failed and misfires have occurred, search the forums. may not be the same for coil on plug if thats what you have, but i'd research that product before running it full time in your car.

listen to jack and stick with stockers. i ran nitrous on stockers. they're good ****.

Ac Delco stockers or NGK (but the NGK's get costly) Replacing them every 30k or so isn't a bad idea but they do last well over 50k

are the +4s really that bad?

i can't see how they can sell something that will be bad for a motor. ive had them in for 2 months now and nothing has gone wrong yet.

and to my knowledge we dont have coil on plug so what harm can it do?

i don't think anyone has mentioned anything like that above, the icm or the 'don't care' parts. i don't think anyone has taken a second to ask...are you building for fun and run or for Miss Daisy driving...

I am not out for racing, it's a NA 2.2, not super charged or doesn't have a turbo in it, although it is tempting to be able to feel some boost again!
