Speed/Rev Limiter

Does anyone have info on removing or replacing the Speed/Rev Limiter on the 2.2 Ecotec engine ? Secondly, is it even possible right now with whats available or must I wait for something to hit the market ? I'd really like to remove that restriction before I go any further with anyother upgrades. Thanks!

There are many threads on this topic, please try a search first before making a new thread.

At present, there is no tuning available for the E16a engine computer in the 2.2L 2005-06 Cobalts. You would not be able to change those parameters until there is.

if you want to remove your speed limiter, make sure you upgrade your tires. the limiter is based on the tires that you have, and going over that limit you can expect a blowout.

they might bump it to ~125, it depends on your dealer.

there's far too many stock, or mainly stock, 2.2's that are asking about this though. I woudln't suggest this at all unless it's something you need for safety at a drag strip or road course.

By the time this engine is capable of making 200 HP, it will also be able to change that limiter.

He was talking about the 2.2L LS/LT's.
You have a 2.0L SS/SC if your speedo goes to 160.

Yep it does suck! I can hit my speed limiter in 4th gear at only about 5800 rpm's. But what I can't figure out is how I ran a 16.2 when my car was bone stock and now I have a sts, cat back, and intake and ran the same exact thing!! Believe its the bald tires not grabbing at all!!! Wich goes back to what every one else said above about needing better tires!!!!!

Well if your unfortunate enough to not have Anti lock brakes then well......Hope you can think on your feet and not just slam the brakes because they will lock up and you will slide like your on ice. But im sure the upper models with anti lock brakes work pretty good.

with better stickier tires they wont lock up, or should be less prone to lockup, but overall is there a lot of fade at higher speeds or do they work well all over the place

There's a pretty decent amount of fade. I know it's freaked me out a couple of times.

lol, it's REAL tough to explain to a dealer why you'd need that turned up.

the brakes on my car stop like a mother, the only issue is that the factory rotors seem to suck, as everyone has issues.

eh not really, it really depends on how your dealer is. I'm pretty good friends with almost every dealership I go to, and they all know my car, what it's used for, and the sites/groups I run or am in, so they wouldn't mind. I still went to have a good friends who happens to be a tech do it though on a slow day as to not get any of the other guys in some sort of trouble.

I dunno, the stock brakes as said weren't too bad but you could definitely feel fade. once I got rid of the stock rotors and pads for powerslots and hawk hps they're far better though, almost feels like a different car now.
