well part of it could be the launch. you had a 2.4 60' and a general rule is that .1 in the 60 equates to .2 in the 1/4 so get that 60' down and tighten those shifts up and you'll have me in no time. but its ok cuz my first run with this car at the track (that same day) was 17 something at 86 b/c i thought you could launch really hard

I ran a 16.7 @ 81mph because I got those goddamn Michelin Energy's instead of the Pirelli P6's. Bastards. Plus I have the auto and I need to launch it in 1st with T/C off. These Michelins get no traction.

Im at work and there are a set of Goodyear Eagle RS-A's off a 2006 Cadillac CTS lying around, my boss said I can have them for free but they're a 225/55/16, will that be too wide for my rim ? I want better traction!

probably not, but your overall diameter is going to be off. you can get that calibrated but it's like .1 or .2 percent if that so you should be fine.
those RS-A's are nice too
EDIT: nevermind I thought stock was 205/60/16, the 225's are going to be abouit 3.5% slower on the speedo

so high 15's would be the norm. i have yet to buy a cobalt. i went last week and spoke with the dealer over price and monthly payments buy of coarse they tryed rapping me on my trade in so until i get the price i want i'll be running 17.4 at 78mph in my 2002 saturn sl1 lol i have a 91 formula thats my all out project, but i kinda want a new car that i can still entertain myself with occasionally. i like having a fast car but i also like the whole moding process and seeing what each thing gets you at the track. my saturns a dog but it is fairly light. it weighed in at 2450 with about 50-75 pounds of blankets, and misc stuff in the trunk. the temp was 81 and it was fairly humid. also my front tires are very bald. on top of that the clutch is on the way out. slips real bad. i bet if i were to get a 8lb flywheel a stronger clutch and shed some weight i could make it well into the 16's. not impressive, but that wouldn't be a bad starting point considering i have no power adders in it yet. i like making little projects/ goals. like for this saturn i wanted to make it into the 15's NA. and then i wanted to run nitrous. that would probably only be good for 14's, but for me it was the fun of getting there and slowly watching my work earn me something. if i bought a cobalt ls i would probably start off the same way. complete bolt ons, which i bet would net me 14 second slips and then maybe shoot the juice at it. my cavy had the quad 4 and i managed to run 15.3 with a few bolt ons and i remebered that the ecotec was under rated so in my mind the two are comparable.

with the 2.2 it would take some VERY good driving and quite a bit of work to reach 14's, I highly doubt it would be possible with just bolt-ons. sure the ecotec is underrated, but it's not the quad 4.
